Is anyone using their V800 as usb modems and if so please tell me how u did it

I have been using my V800 as a data modem since May 2005. The following instructions represents my current setup and what I recall when setting it all up. Maybe one of the other clever dudes on this forum notices something that can be improved.

1. Sim card must be data enabled (phone Vodacare at 111 to do this)
2. Install the software that came with your V800, follow all the defaults. This installs the V800 USB modem on your computer. There are other methods to install this modem, hopefully not required, and maybe your USB modem is already present.
3. On your V800 menu, go to Connectivity/Internet settings/Internet profiles and note the positions of “Vodacom” or “Internet.GPRS” on the list (1, 2, 3, or 4)
4. Set up a dial-up connection (assuming Windows XP) by following the steps below.
5. Go to Control Panel
6. Launch Network Connections
7. Select “Create a new connection” under network tasks
8. This launches the wizard (click “Next after each selection)
9. Choose “Connect to the Internet”
10. Choose “Set up my connection manually”
11. Choose “Connect using a dial-up modem”
12. Choose your USB modem from the list
13. Type a name for your dialup e.g. V8003G
14. Type in the phone number (*99***4# where the 4 represents the corresponding position of your profile as noted in step 3 above. So if “Vodacom” is number 2 on your list, replace the 4 with a 2)
15. Select “Next” on the following screen, do not type anything here
16. Depending on your needs, select or unselect “Make this the default Internet connection”
17. Select “Add a shortcut…..” and “Finish”
18. Make sure your V800 is connected to your PC with the USB cable
19. Go to your desktop, launch the new icon
20. Select “Properties”
21. Highlight your USB modem and make sure it is the only one checked
22. Select “Configure”
23. Select maximum speed as 460800.
24. The options “enable modem error control” and/or “enable modem compression” might have to be deselected (mine works without)
25. Select OK, OK, Dial

Good luck!
