So I've been running the student rat race for awhile and right now I'm very tired of it since whenever there is a break I never get some real R&R. I haven't had a proper vacation since matric (visiting family in Durban doesn't count for me). So I've been thinking of taking a trip outside SA for a week or 2. Organizing with the family is another task though my mom did suggest Mauritius it's probably going to be one of those things we all say let's do it but something comes in the way, I also don't have anyone special :foreveralone: so I will be going at this alone. I is scared already :o, but I will do it like :likeaboss:.

Anyway, where would be a great place to go around December?
I've always wanted to go to Japan, though it's winter at that time, I can't really think of any other place I'd really love to go.

Oh, also what are the bunch of things I should get set to organize and how? Such as tickets, travel guide/tour, accomadtion, if I recall the travel visa can only be organised once I have set plane tickets.

DO IT DO IT!!! Mauritius all the way!!!!!!!!!

I think keep Mauritius for when u take a girl along. Those places can get kinda boring i think without a girl :)

check out getaways travel website, they have some great specials and ideas at times. www.getawaytravel.co.za

Thailand could be an option, its as beautiful as Mauritius but there is more to do i think.

Eurotrip also a fun idea, can join a tour group then u meet some people. I did that in december last year, but its not really a resting holiday :)

Well don't go alone :D Got 2 excited when I saw Mauritius:o

I'd say if Japan is a viable option for you, do it. Otherwise Germany. Beerhouses. Frauleins. Hmm
*books ticket*

Bali.
Thailand.
Fiji.
Palau.. (I'm dreaming beeeegg :) )

How far do you want to fly and what is your budget?

Decide where and get a visa ( some places you have to have one, Asia is easier )

If you're going alone you should consider doing a Contiki tour.

Budget, well not set in stone but maybe 10-15K excluding plane tickets. Again not set in stone depending on the places, other tour groups etc.

Japan is very expensive^^ R15k will cut it quite close. Rather do europe :)

I've still got more funds available. Have you been there, how much did it cost you? Thing is about Europe I can't really think of a place where I would not say "Hey if this person was here with me to see this", that's why I'm asking for suggestions, I'd also like to know things of interest as well.

Would have liked to go to Amsterdam, but I hear the coffee shops are now closed for tourists and the cannabis cup would have been around that time I went there, so I'm not sure if that's still on. Seems like all that will be left there for tourists is wooden shoes, windmills & red light districts.
I would have gone to Ibiza now, if I was given a winter break and not stuck doing research...maybe next year.

//turns green with envy
Meh.

With that budget you should decide what you would like to do. Ski, dive, travel by train.

Then make a list of places.
