Has anyone got experience wth entry level home use vacuum sealers and able to tell a bit about the pro's and cons of each unit, certain features one unit has over the other etc. I see there are many to choose from!

I would like to vacuum seal dried food stuffs and it would be nice to reseal say large simba/lays chip packets and also to be able to make custom sized bags. I did some reading and it seems one should ideally look for a unit which has as broad of a vacuum section rather than a narrow little vacuum section in the Centre of the sealing section.

I have come across the
-Genesis R1400
-sunbeam sbs 540 R400
-Taurus R1200
-Severin R2000
-mellerware R750

Have the Genesis.

Received as a gift.

Works well but the bags are very expensive.

Yet to try 3rd party bags but apparently they do not play nicely with the Genesis.

Genesis - Agree the roll of plastic you buy is expensive, but it works. That sunbeam one - rubbish.

3rd for the genesis. The only ones that seal properly every time and are thick enough for sous vide.
