I want to take my wife out for a nice evening on the 14th. Any suggestions of restaurants/evening-picnic-spots/rooftops etc. places that you know of that are doing something specific for Valentines day?

LBV Bistro is you can find space. Love that place.

But honestly, for Valentines I'm cooking dinner with candles and stuff. I'd prefer not to share the evening with the rest of Johannesburg. Suppose it is different if there are children :p

All the good spots are probably fully booked now. Nothing wrong with Nandos.

The Jazzed Up Radium. Smash some beers, watch some football, talk k** with the regulars.

Best advice I can give is to skip going out on the 14th. Places are packed and prices are astronomical. Book for the 16th or the 10th, cheaper, quieter and just as romantic.

But not on the 14th, so really not that romantic after all.

Good suggestion, only problem is that I would be the only one agreeing with the suggestion.

There's also Casa Bella and Fire Room at Montecasino, the latter being great if you enjoy sushi. Still new so probably booked out.

Casa Bella is great though.

Tried Casa Bella at Mall of Africa, not bad. But I'm a bit Monte'd out..

If I had to go to a "mall" I'd pick Monte over MoA. Easier to get out :D

I believe Fire Room is the sister restaurant of Wasabi at MoA.

Oh, speaking of Mall of Africa - don't bother with Hinterland if you are looking for variety. The menu is very limited and the food, although good, really isn't spectacular enough to warrant that.

Yeah, I usually look at the menu first, it looked pricey, and I know of quite a few places that make good steak, so didn't see the value
