I would rather build a mid range PC and install Steam OS on it. Far more versatile and you can do much more.

Consoles are always part convenience of bot having to DIY a solution.

If you have time and knowledge, you can almost always save a buck.

You will lose some hardware features regardless, like CEC over HDMI and dedicated antennas for your wireless controllers.

I remember some video on how a guy turned a standard PC gamepad by simply installing an internal dongle and it only cost him about $10 to do.

It is obscene what Sony and MS charge for their peripherals given what they're really worth. That is another thing which I really hate about consoles and makes them the reserve of those too lazy to get off their couches.

We PC gamers take pleasure in our ingenuity as it's more rewarding that way.
