Vanilla Gigabit

anyone for Vanilla gigabit?

Sure, if you're settling the bill :). Used them way back with the Original WoW with very good results. Pricing is still a little high on Vumatel packages. Will be keeping an eye out for any specials.

R1400 for a 1GB uncapped connection? Wtf

it does depend where and who... we have many residential buildings where tenants get gigabit for under R400 per month, uncapped for R999... of course with gigabit one can open an ISP and we don't shape or throttle so we do have "uncapped tiers" to keep things fair. FOr example we have some Bulgarians on our network who stream HD content from their home in Sofia all day so they don't mind paying a premium to have this working cleanly!

Is there a map where vanilla is available. We might move closer to CT soon and I wouldn't mind a GB connection :crylaugh:

I assume this is only available to certain block of flats? Or are some complexes covered too?

I have never gotten over 100Mbps on the Mybb speedtest server for some reason, this is on RSAWEB 1Gb, from Cape Town
Ping: 3ms
Download: 92.92Mbps
Upload: 83.93Mbps

Netflix speed test sometimes goes all the way to 999Mbps

Yes, one of our most challenging aspects of business is to get the building manager / body corporate to allow us to put fibre into the building, seems like the FNOs have pathed the way...

I see pricing has been updated on fibre packages.

Has anybody used Vanilla uncapped fibre? Is it on the same network as their capped accounts? Any FUP's?

Tempted, but as mentioned above, getting the body corporate to play ball might just be an issue since I'll probably be the only person wanting the service :(

Woops, I might need to clarify: I was talking about Vanilla ISP via Vumatel or Openserve fibre.

Thanks for this question.. I have been meaning to write a blog post about this...
Our uncapped service on Vanilla global network (ie our fibre and all the open access options other than Openserve) works in tiers.... there is no FUP! Our global network is enterprise quality and we do guarantee there is always a gigabit of unused capacity on all transit links. When we see clients using more data than is viable in the marketplace (eg a client that streams 24x7 FHD - 12Mbps - from their other home in Sofia Bulgaria), then we do an outbound call to discuss with them if they are willing to pay a few hundreds more R's since they are getting more than others... We have never found anyone not willing to pay for the next tier service and we've never forced anyone. In 2016 we did have to fire a client because they became abusive to staff about this....

Vanilla on Vumatel uses our global network, no FUP! Vanilla on Openserve shares Cybersmart IPC so we use the same FUP as they do! hope this helps...

Oh dear so sorry about the delayed replies... we are available on most networks in Cape Town... we like to be able to go on site to support customers, sorry for the others :(

why do you have a contact number for Jhb and Durban if you are only based in Cape Town?
Great question... we always had ambitions to be national, we do and have always offered (Telkom adsl) and now Openserve fibre so we can deliver to some degree in most places. We have 10Gbps NAPAfrica peering in CT and Joburg... We just like to be able to go to the customer if they need us to. Would love to partner with local ICTs to be able to do that :)
