Vantec/Sunix PCIe and SDD ?

Hi There
I asked one of my technical colleagues for his opinion.
This was his comment
Most of the new Motherboards are supporting SATA III ( or 6gB transfer rate ) therefore additional PCI card might increase performance on older motherboards but the big question is BUS speed and overheating. Look at the ASUS for example ... further to that new MB's are going for about R1500 therefore buying PCI card for R900 is REALLY questionable.

I think that much better perfomance one would get from 7200 rpm drive and SATA II than investing money into SATA III PCI card

Warmest regards

Tim

Thanks, totally forgot to get back to this thread. In the end after too much reading up on this, it seems that it is only viable option when you use a decent PCIe that fits into at least PCIe 4x. Anything slower than that wouldn't not yield proper results. Not only that, but most of the cards, sunix and vantec don't support the actual features you would like your SSD to have. They only add a port and that is that.

So yes Asus PCIe 4x Sata3 card would be a good buy, but then again it would be better to go with a motherboard that supports this if you don't have an open PCIe 4x slot. Which I don't.
