Maties plays Tukkies next week in Stellenbosch but it is not going to be televised. A bummer, since they are the only two unbeaten teams left in the competition.

+1, this game should be awesome to watch. Thinking of going out to watch them but I am moving house tonight and tomorrow night.

It will probably be sold out already in any case. Good luck with the moving. I thought I was the only one watching varsity cup here.

I go to all of the local ones - even a varsity shield match or two at University of Fort Hare. :)

2012 Varsity Cup Standings & Fixtures/Results

Position Team P W D L PF PA PD BP Pts
1 Maties 4 4 0 0 109 43 66 1 17
2 UP-Tuks 4 3 0 1 125 51 74 3 15
3 UJ 4 3 0 1 135 74 61 3 15
4 NWU-Pukke 4 2 0 2 110 78 -32 3 11

7 Shimlas 4 1 0 3 90 109 -19 2 6
8 TUT 4 0 0 4 12 210 -198 0 0

NMMU beat UCT and in the big one, Maties beat Tuks.

1) I love the fact that they only play on Mondays, the one day I don't pitch on campus.
2) If they're all sponsored by FNB, what's the point in having FNB in front of their name anymore? Isn't it being called the 'FNB Varsity Cup' enough?

The point is to get the sponsors as much airtime as possible. When I first saw the 'stratergy break', I thought it was going to be for ad breaks like in US sports and the IPL.

7 Shimlas 5 1 0 4 108 157 -49 2 6
8 TUT 5 0 0 5 12 303 -291 0 0

Seems like TUT will be automatically relegated this round. Maties still unbeaten. I just get the feeling that Tuks will take it this year. From the reports of last weeks game it seems Maties was lucky in that one.

Massive win for UJ btw.

Big Maties game next week vs UCT! Pitty I have a test the next day so I can't enjoy it properly :(

UCT is really failing this year.

Really didn't expect them to do so badly. I thought they had it yesterday, then the Pukke came from nowhere.

I actually thought the Pukke played better than Ikeys for most part - but sloppy defence almost gifted to soft tries to UCT. Ikeys did defend better though, but good defence only takes you that far.

Ja, quite convincing. At a point I thought OS du Randt was playing for Maties, turned out to be another Os, Os Hamman. Maties' scrum looked really strong.

Tuks, Shimlas and NMMU are now under investigation after it was alleged that they are fielding ineligible players.

This could affect the final log standings.

Jip. Just a reprimand for the teams.

Can't wait for the semi and possible final at Tuks.

Well, good win there for Tuks.

Also Wits will be in the varsity cup next year. UCT will also stay after they beat CUT in the promotion/relegation match.
