These guys do not get it, they have done an evil by keeping these rapes quiet, for decades, and now they are complaining that people are taking offence about this. These attacks, like my mild one here, are not about gay marriage, or celibacy or condom banning, but it is about the fact the Pope when he was a cardinal, assisted in covering up these acts, and now is working to try and get away from facing justice.

Well, their counter attack will meet and be crushed by the might of the worlds disgusted people, these acts and the cover up will not go away. Anyone who sides with the Pope on this, I think is an accomplice of the cover up of the child rapes and abuse.

Vatican City - The Vatican is revving up its counter-attack against accusations that Pope Benedict XVI helped cover up the actions of paedophile priests to save the church's reputation.

Senior cardinals in Rome are decrying what they depict as an anti-Catholic "hate" campaign that they say is related to the fact that Benedict is leading church opposition to same-sex marriage.

Vatican Radio on Tuesday quoted Italian Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, a Holy See official, as saying the church must pardon its attackers for what he called "hatred against the Catholic church".

Spanish Cardinal Julian Herranz, who heads a Vatican disciplinary commission, says the pope is being attacked because of his stands against abortion and same-sex marriage.

Herranz is quoted as saying powerful lobbies want to impose a different agenda.

It appears they've adopted the "JZ" defence rather than the "JC" approach.
 
Fact: Some of their members raped kids, and then the powers in the organisation covered it up, and are now trying to evade this. Sorry, not going to happen. People will be visiting Holland in the near future, and justice will be served.
 
It has always been the policy of all denominations to sweep things under the carpet. The Catholic church has just been caught out. I was appalled that the abuse of children by priest was covered up tho.

You would think that a church is the safest place for your child, but NOW it seems not.

Where is it all going to end? Will we have to get our sacraments via the post and attend church on the TV to keep out kids safe from these animals?

Can we have a poll for whether or not one thinks the Pope should be arrested? It obviously won't make any difference - just curious to see what people think?

Not religious but why do you have to belong to a church or religion in order to practise your faith or whatever? I know many people that 'believe' but want nothing to do with the church or organised religion.
 
You know, normal healthy people will automatically feel disgust and want to protect the child if they find out that a child has been raped by someone. Even in most prisons (perhaps not in SA), if the prisoners discover that you have raped a child, you are usually 'dealt with'. The morality of #$%# prisoners are better than the morality of the clergy.

It is time for us to stop giving automatic respect to people's delusions and superstitions.

And if you are catholic and are not pressuring your church to comply with authorities to have the rapists arrested and those (including the pope) that were involved in the cover up, you are complicit in these rapes.

Why do you have to go to school and then university or technikon to learn an occupation? Why not just get the books and study and then write exams?

That's the problem. It's about building community, tradition and education - the priest puts the Bible in context so that you're not like some people on this forum and think that the Bible teaches you to rape, enslave and pillage.

Secondly, how would we even know about Christ without the Church. That knowledge would have lost. It was after all the duty of the disciples to continue Christ's church and so tell more people about Christ, not only across distance but across time (generation to generation).

You don't get it. Statistically these rapes and abuses are insignificant and while they should have reacted better, they reacted pretty appropriately for the times. If you go back to the history books you will see that child abuse was not something which was recognised before, it only reached hysterical levels in the late 90s and the last decade.

Oh rubbish. Few are disgusted. The people who are disgusted are such as you who was never Catholic, and hate Christianity for various reasons. Get over your little crusade.

What is disgusting is this harping on a comparative few incidents among a religion which has 1 BILLION FOLLOWERS and hundreds of thousands of priests. Pedophilia has been around for ages and these guys hide everywhere. If you really cared about the children, and weren't using this as a SICK pretext you'd crusade against child abuse in all forms. Grow up.

Translation: The priest tells you which parts of the bible to read and rationalises the 'bad' bits so that you are not disgusted by it.

I had 2 mormon missionaries in my lounge a while ago. We talked about the story of Noah and I asked them how they could accept that it was 'good' that the christian deity committed complete genocide by wilfully causing a flood to kill the entire world's population given that there were likely innocents killed. Their answer; it was good because God is good. This kind of thinking is pathetic and if you need a priest to tell you how to think, you are pathetic too.

And this is what religion has done. It has made you make excuses for an organisatoin that has systematically protected child rapists. You say grow up; we say break free from your pathetic delusions.

Can you prove to me statistically that there are more child molesters among Catholic priests than there are among the general population?

Here are some UK stats for you:

1% of children aged under 16 experienced sexual abuse 1 by a parent or carer, and a further 3% by another relative during childhood.
Cawson, P. et al. (2000) Child maltreatment in the United Kingdom: a study of the prevalence of child abuse and neglect. London: NSPCC. p.85.

For the children who experienced sexual abuse outside of the family, the most common perpetrator was a boyfriend or girlfriend.

* 70% of penetrative/oral acts of sexual abuse outside of the family were by a boyfriend/girlfriend
* 17% were perpetrated by 'someone I recently met' 7
* 10% were perpetrated by a fellow student/pupil
* 6% were perpetrated by a friend of their parents
* 6% were perpetrated by a friend of their brother/sister.

Very few children (less than 1%) experienced abuse by professionals in a position of trust, for example a teacher, religious leader or care/social worker.

"I have documented more than 130 cases of clergy paedophilia" since around 1999, Sergio Cavaliere told AFP, correcting a report in an Italian daily that said his research covered only the last two years.

So far, "not a single priest has been handed over to justice by a diocese," Cavaliere said, echoing recent remarks by a prosecutor in northern Milan.

The Church's behaviour in addressing the scandals is "the opposite of (Pope) Benedict XVI's idle chatter," Cavaliere said, in a mocking reference to remarks by the pontiff last month.

Catholic believers often quote reports that contend that pedophile priests are a relatively smaller proportion when measured against any other group/segment. I wonder how they calculate this as the RC so actively keeps these cases/facts hidden.
 
Pete it has been proven time and again that catholic priests are molesting and raping children, the fact that it is not limited to them does not make it right. Just because you are a catholic priest does not give you a right to molest young kids and the people defending these people are just as sick and warped.

Bunch of bloody child molesters, how people can still go into catholic churches is beyond me.

I have a great new business idea for parents of young catholic boys.
