Does anyone know if it is possible to use a Vodacom E620 PCMCIA card with Virgin Mobile. I have enough of the useless VC connection and need an alternative. I have no problems with VM from my phone so need to know if it works with the card.

Please note that the data card will work if it is not network locked, create a new profile and fill in the parameters as below.
Initialisation string : at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata"
APN : vdata
Username: blank
Password: Blank

If you experience any problems please do not hesitate to email [email protected] for further assistance.

There is an issue using certain 64K Virgin Mobile SIM cards and the E620 card, but Virgin Mobile will happily courier a compatible 128K SIM should you be affected.

Take note that Virgin Mobile only provide EDGE speeds and that you may have been getting 3G or even HSDPA with Vodacom.

I wouldn't bother with Virgin. Each starter pack should come with a box of Asprin and a tranquilizer.
MTN is far more reliable, definitely faster and can work out cheaper in some circumstances.

With VC I cannot even get connected so it will be much better. On average I get disconnected about 50 times a day. Often I also get a connection where I cannot access anything. When this occurs, I have to disconnet and reconnect about 5-10 times to get a usable connection so it will definitely be better.

I don't have any problems connecting with VM. That is how I am working now. VC is dead. The problem with MTN is that they don't have a Prepaid bundle that fits. I need about 200 Meg per month. On VM, thats R100, on MTN I have to go for a 350Meg which is R210. There is a big difference in price. I will try with VM and if it has problems then I can always switch to MTN as it's just prepaid cards.

There's a Novatel U630 and a Huawei E620, which do you have?

If you are having trouble with your data card dont use the vodacom software. Uninstall the vodcom software, create a new network connection with your 3G/HSDPA and use it to connect. your connection should now be stable.
