I'm due for an upgrade, and remember reading somewhere that when signing a Vcom contract for 24 months without opting for a device, then you allocation of data, minutes etc.. is doubled?

Any truth in this?

Not any more. Check in the deals thread. There are no device deals with reduced monthly subscrption.

That was before they introduced the new plans this year. You actually get more than double with the new plans as standard but if you sign a contract without a device you pay a drastically reduced monthly subscription

Why would you want to enter into a contract with any provider without a device? Prepaid works out cheaper.

Just call retentions and tell them you want to cancel your contract. I got a great deal from that.

Where can I get R110 airtime and 1gig data for less than R100?

That's a special contract by the sounds of it, generally prepaid works out a lot cheaper, you're also not tied into anyone specific network. Also are you really getting R110 airtime? Cause at VC rates that's under 60 minutes talk time and 500 megs of data at best. I know my wife is on that contract as it offered a really sweet deal, but R110 doesn't last very long on VC, where as the R100 I recharge her Telkom mobile sim with lasts almost the entire month.
Because on Telkom you can get the freeme booster pack which gives 1gig of data, 300 minutes to Telkom Landlines and mobile, 100 smses, if you add R34 you get 50 all network minutes, but you don't have to as honestly data is more important.

Thought so promotional only and once the contract moves to month to month you're paying that R218.

The contract is 24 months... I'll be getting R110 airtime and 1 gig data for 24 months. Who in their right mind would let a contract go month to month. Anyway that's what I did, use it don't use it.

Prepaid works out cheaper.
With prepaid you have to put up with ridiculously short rollover (if any) and constant sms's with "offers". Granted you do get "specials" every time you recharge.

Maybe consider getting data separately (either a dual sim) for someone like Axxess (R29/500mb 3 month rollover) or MTN prepaid with Axxess added to that sim.

Vodacom sim only s+ contract 149 a mnth get 200min, 200sms and 500mb.

MTN is R10 cheaper for the same package.

If you're on a no device contract, can you add a device part way through the 24 month period? I'm due for an upgrade in a month, but very happy with my 6S - I'm thinking of going no device route, but I'm concerned that if something happens to my phone I'll have to buy a phone separately. It would be great if I could have the ability to add a device to my contract later as a security... Anyone know if that's possible?

Just on this, I thought I'd point out something (although I'm sure someone else did the same). You're paying contract minute rates with that airtime. R1.90 per minute to be exact. So at best, you'd get 58 minutes out of that.

Now on MTN prepaid + AH Mobile:

- 58 minutes = R0.79 x 58 = R45.85
- 1 Gig data = R58

Total is R103.85. It's slightly more than what you're paying, and slightly less than the average joe without the promo price. But I'm happy to pay what I do for the freedom of jumping ship, reasonable data top-up costs, and the ability to change my data plans based on my needs if I want to.

No. When you sign no device deal with reduced subs then it is a 24 month contract. If you need a device during that period for whatever reason you will have to source it on your own (cash purchase etc)
