aaaaaaarrggghhhhhhhhhh.
Have to start all over...............
I need to replace my mother's vcr with something that can share taped shows between three households. (two sisters on same wildlife estate)
VCR tapes are becoming an extinct species. Old ones are used up.
I tried a recordable DVD player, found it INCREDIBLY complicated and un-user-friendly(due to constant formatting and re-formatting and recording lenght issues). I took the DVD back for myself, and had to have the laser replaced twice in two years (LG, just not cutting it).
I have a HTPC myself, and ruled it out, due to total number of steps still involved in getting the media on a portable/shareable format.
Recently I found a possible solution with recordable DiVX players.
Basically DiVX player with composite input/output, able to record off tv/dstv/vcr.
1. Chronos MP4200S , with built in-hard drive. If I buy three, Mother and sisters can swop the "empties" out with "a full" one (after a week or three)
2. http://www.take2.co.za/electronics-magnetox-v120-mini-video-recorder-2595189.html
It has a seperate, USB connected harddrive in portable casing, which can be swapped out without removing the whole unit.
Both seem however to be put of stock in SA.
Does anybody have a better/different possible solution? Price remains an issue, since I will have to get three of everything...possibly.
