Sign up with GoogleMy VCR is giving me hassles lately, so I'm looking to replace it, however these new fancy devices such as the mede8er are too expensive to my liking.
I'm looking for something simple that can function like an old style VCR. Record, button, Timer Programming and a Play button. Ideally recording to a flash drive or SD card. No need for hard drive, DVD writer and all that. Does a device like this exist? Preferably not much more than R1000. If it can play xvid/divx it would be nice too.

Would it be better to wait till the new digital TV broadcasts are in place before buying?
