Hey guys not so long ago I upgraded my line to 20mb vdsl line with telkom. I bought the asus dsl-n66u modem not long after . Been using and finally did a speed test a few days ago . I got like 10mb download speed and 1mb upload . Was trying to optimise most out of my vdsl line by getting a little more speed. I googled some info how to bump up my speed a Little bit and got this information ( in the picture ). Being myself a total noob I tried entering these setting . Applied it and now I have no Internet access at all . Anyone have some help on how to get connected again ? Modem Firmware version 1.1.1.3 .

I believe your modem needs to be either set to Mix mode or Multi mode or Auto. Linespeed will depend on copper quality and distance from the exchange, I was promised 20Mbps VDSL from Telkom and after upgrading the max I could get was 13Mbps.

Okay I have reset the modem . I got the line working at least again. But it seems slower than ever now. Guess I have to be happy with the 10mb speed I get. Right ?

Not quite yet.

1. Run Zertop's Line test routine and post the results. We will then be able to comment on whether there are any line issues affecting performance. https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...eport-Tool?p=12372998&viewfull=1#post12372998

2. Find and post the router statistics for us to comment on.

There may just be a few things we could suggest you do before reporting a fault to your ISP and or OpenServe.

It is not a good idea to simply change settings before knowing where the issue is with performance and never a good idea without making notes of what you changed as well as never change more than one thing at a time.

Zertop's LineTool Results
Date/Time: Sat Apr 15 14:43:10 GMT+02:00 2017

Basic Report:

Your packet loss was 0%.
Your average ping was 49ms.
Your maximum ping was 184ms.

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be a bit dodgy. This may account for any slow speeds you may be experiencing. However, it could just be related to a high-latency home network (eg... Wi-Fi). If you feel the need, please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice!

You seem to have some packet loss. This indicates an issue on the line.
Looking at your average ping, there is definitely something wrong with your line! Please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice!

Okay thanx I'll have a look. But one thing I've never changed when I tried the setting was inserting dns server's the modem asks for 2 but simply left it open.

What about the router statistics available on your router administration Web page?
The tool shows you have a line issue but it will be easier to advise you if we can see what the router stats are.

Are you sure the line is running VDSL at all, it seems you are still on ADSL.

Those settings in the screenshot @ the top is required for VDSL to work, if you dont use them Telkom has you on ADSL still.

This exactly what I was thinking. When I phoned the very first time they told me they'll sms when my line upgrade was installed. This was ons a Monday. They told me will be installed after 48 hours. That weeks Saturday still no sms and phoned they told me my line upgrade was installed. After that I phoned twice just to make sure they told me it's upgraded. So that's why I tried switching my setting to vdsl on my router, and I ended up being disconnected from the Internet.

ADSL 2+ and VDSL are both capable of delivering a 20 Mbps service. IF your router is set to ADSL 2+ at the time when Telkom do the upgrade to 20 Mbps the service will be activated on ADSL2+ and not on VDSL. You need to co-ordinate the change with them on the line and make sure the router is configured for VDSL.

Now That is why I asked you to provide us with the router statistics page because it would immediately tell us what the configuration is ....

Have you been able to access the router admin webpage and see what the settings are and how to access the line statistics yet? If you are really serious about wanting to monitor access performance then you must be able to do this. Have a look at the manual/quick start guide as it should show you how to access the routers configuration pages.

Hey yes i did a line upgrade without having my new modem. I bought the modem afterwards ( asus dsl-n66u) I can access the admin page will check the line statistics now and will post it. If things are not up to order I'll phone them and correct the problem.

So what you need to do is configure the new outer for VDSL, make sure the old router is disconnected and get the line re-configured on VDSL.

Those summary stats are not very good. You should be able to get a screen showing more detail about attenuation, SNR margin etc.

Be prepared to phone them multiple times while they tell you "okay it's on VDSL now" while it isn't.

Also you'll more than likely need to add a VLAN ID once they finally do make the switch so when your internet actually goes offline that's a sign they did their job.

Hey yes I phoned . While I was on the phone with them they configured it told me I must do a speed test again. ( my first test without phoning them I got 10.55mb of download speed ) so I did the test again I got 14.10mb they told me it should be between 16 and 19 mb . I should try again after 15 min and check my speed again if it's not right by then I should phone again . And it's 15min later and my speed is again at 12,67mb. So I'll just hang on a bit do a test again if it's not right I'll phone again.
