I finally got my adsl line upgraded to vdsl. I am about 1 km from a newly installed msan box. Do I need to log a fault regarding the FEC issues ? Also should i be able to push the download speed higher ?

If you applied for 40mb you must be within 850m to MSAN.
Judging from your upload speed (3mbits), they put you on 40mb profile.

The speed wouldn't be able to go above what you are getting now as your SNR is not great 6db. However you can get them to stabilize your connection by interleaving it, should you wish to maintain your 26.7mb downstream profile.

The problem with this is you paying for 40mbit service and only achieving 20mbit, my suggestion would be to reduce your package to a 20mbit package and that will eliminate your CRC error count, these errors cause the issue of making download speeds unstable as your modem cannot correct these.

The FEC errors aren't that important from what I've read and your modem corrects these.

Agree. Rather go slower and reduce errors.
