Hi,

I would really appreciate your input and advice, I'm getting conflicting reports regarding if i can get a vdsl line or not,
every second person I speak to (ISP's, Telkom) contradicts the previous answer i get, one would tell me that i can get a vdsl line, and the next that i can't,

again according to the websites one say i can and the other i can't get vdsl.
http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ (say i only have 10mb available)
and
http://www.telkom.co.za/coverage/ (say that i do)

according to telkom im 2,4 km from the exchange, which puts me out of the vdsl range. (I currently have a 10mb line, but ASSIA is syncing it at 8mb)

Here are some stats from my router.

Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 1021 8191
Max Rate (Kbps) 1156 16220
SNR Margin (dB) 9.4 12.4
Line Attenuation (dB) 20.5 35.5
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

and stats from my ISP management console

Your line is in great shape

Current Telkom profile speed Unknown
Downstream speed 8191 kbps
Downstream SNR 12.6 dB
Upstream SNR 9.3 dB
Max downstream speed 10240 kbps
Downstream attenuation 35.5 dB
Upstream attenuation 20.5 dB

..

okay so here is the question,
1.) should i just stop and accept that vdsl is out of my reach
2.) continue nagging the crap outa them to upgrade me.

thanks in advance guys

I dont think that ADSL checker link is very accurate - when I plug in my number it says I cant get ADSL in my area, but I recently upgraded to VDSL 40 from ADSL 10mb

Haha, says adsl service not available, but I've got 10Mbps. I've had adsl at my house for 4years or more.

Anybody know of a reliable source where one can check the status of your ADSL/VDSL line

I just went through the same. Telkomza said you are to far.....some areas Telkom just installed the new ISAM at their exchanges....... I am 2.4km from the exchange so no VDSL for me.

Telkom coverage map shows that I am covered!!!

Btw what is the distance allowed for vdsl
2.4km seems like they tell most people they are 2.4km from the isam, coincidence?

Tx, atleast this is some kind of hard evidence, guess I'll have to explore different avenues, eg. Lte or fibre (oneday when it comes to my neighborhood)
