I personally run a GlusterFS install that's distributed across a few continents. If a VM goes down I just restore a snapshot and it accesses our data independent of that. In fact, with Vagrant, I just run 1 command line if I don't have access to a snapshot and it does a complete install from scratch

I think the primary target market for this product is stand alone physical servers and VMs in public clouds where your choices for backups are limited.
