Hi peeps,

So my wife bought a car, where someone obviously liked their sound. Well if the JBL speakers are anything to go by.
Currently all the system does if produce a deep rumbling sound.

I dug around and found a XTC Grenade amp? I don't have a cooking clue how it's supposed to be wired.
I see on the 12v input side it has 2 outputs + & -. The 12v is obviously connected and the outputs are connected to something.
On the opposite side of the amp I see 2 inputs and 2 outputs. The inputs are connected but not the outputs.
Otherwise there's a whole bunch of wires not connected to anything.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Is the rumbling sound happening just when the radio is on, or when its playing music? Could you perhaps pin point one specific speaker making the noise, or is it coming from all of them. Does the car have a subwoofer, because thats normally the one thats suppose to make the deep sound.

Did the system work fine, and just started doing this one day, or is this from day one? Reason is to figure out if something changed in the car.

In any case, if my system starts making noises I just start by unplugging and replugging everything to make sure its not a connection thing.

Thanks for the reply. The audio never really worked from the start. I think I figured out the amp thing. It's a monoblock amp, so designed for the subwoofer. The reason it has 2 outputs I read, is for "strapping" amps together.

The rumbling happens when playing music, not just when it's on. So I guess the bass is working, and all the other speakers aren't connected. I'll have to trace wires from the speakers to the headunit.

Ah well, just for laughs I'll list what I found:
2x 12" Calibre Nemisis subs with a peak output of 1500w each
2x JBL 9634 speakers and a peak of 240w each
XTC Amp with 7500w output
the 2nd amp was clearly removed, which explains the loose wires.

And this was all put into a......1972 VW Beetle!

The loud Beetle engine must have given the subwoofer an interesting undertone if you were to listen from the outside. Indeed a booming setup.
