A Brakpan couple was hijacked after their car was bumped from behind by another vehicle.

The couple was travelling along Heidelberg Road at about 8pm, on Saturday, last week, when the hijackers struck.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the man and his wife were stationary at the traffic lights at the intersection of Heidelberg and New Kleinfontein roads, when a white Volkswagen Polo bumped into the back of their red Audi Q5.

The man turned left into New Kleinfontein Road and pulled over to inspect the damage.

The Polo followed and stopped behind the Audi.

Three men alighted the Polo and threatened the man with a gun.

This **** has been happening for way too long ! We just need to be on high alert and make sure how many occupants are in the car and if you feel unsafe drive to the nearest police station.

Problem is being in car it's usually to late to draw/cock/aim, they have the advantage of surprise. Not much you can do.
If only criminals would warn you in advance that they will be breaking in / attempt to hijack you eh?

That is why you train with the tools you feel comfortable defending your life with. And then train some more until drawing and sighting whilst sitting in the car becomes second nature.
+ you need to train yourself to be aware.

Why would you still need to cock? And you draw when the opportunity presents itself

Because, if it is one of the hundreds of bumper-bashing's that happen in every day life, this might lead to very inflammable situations.

Still dont see why you need to cock

You don't. One up for 25 years now.
They don't have the element of surprise if you are aware at all times. When you stop..you should be watching them. They can't take you by surprise if you know what you are looking out for and are ready for it.

Not having a round chambered is a waste of time. If there is a situation when you need to use your weapon the time taken to cock could be the difference between life and death.

Agreed.
Some gun owners I know, lock their gun in their safe. Unloaded. And the key is hidden in the house somewhere. Might as well not have a gun.

Was doing the school run the other day. And lady bumped into me from behind. First check to see anything out of place, just a mom and her daughter in the car. Lots of cars around us so not a hijacking. I got out, and walked to her. Poor lady closed the windows and started honking. 140Kg and 1.96m in cargo pants and gym shirt with 5 day beard might have been too much for her.
What did she expect me to do?
Beat her up or what?
People live in fear nowadays, might keep you alive a while longer, but sure is crappy way to live

A sad reality of life in SA.

whats the best way to avoid this from happening? check the occupants of the car out?

if its 3 guys late at night and look suspicious drive to the police?

or its its daytime, soccer mom with her daughter its safer?

never happened to me personally, but for those that it has happened, whats the best to look out for?

If it feels dodgy to you and you're uncomfortable getting out, drive to the hearest police station.
