200k lol. A 200k car has no creature comforts. We enjoy the creature comforts of the older car - full dual zone climate control, dsg, auto lights/wipers, leather seats, etc.
And even a 200k car, is gonna cost you a new turbo per month on the present car. Or more.

You can easily pick up a one year old car that originally retailed for a lot more than R200k. Let someone else take the initial knock.
Before you know it your older car will be worth the same as a high end scooter, when you do eventually decide it's time to go.
Then it's too late

But speaking of "Then it's too late"...
Say we had replaced the current car 5 years ago with an equivalent one. Over the last 5 years I'd have paid out probably 600k plus on the new one. Which would probably be worth what, 180k now, optimistically.
Compared to the 10 year old one, worth say 70k. I still think I'm 500k ahead of the game.

Combine buying that 1 year old car with keeping it for a while... Bliss. Mine is now 6 years old and was 1 year old when I bought it. Now on 120 000km. Bought for R99 000 and can sell privately for ~R78 000 or ~R68 000 trade and that hasn't really dropped much in the past 3 years. Can't see it dropping much in the next 3 either.

It's the 63kw N/A 1.4. R8k allows room for some options that very reasonably priced.

Super simple & mechanically basic. Tried & test design since 2009 (original design) & an engine from 198x

Please name your even better sub R200 000 newish (1 year or less) car.

It's a new Polo Vivo, based on the 2009–2017 Polo and not the pre-2009 Polo like the old Polo Vivo. There is now a new 2018 Polo out. Just making sure you know what's what, if you don't.

+1, those Vivo's aren't put together very good imo. Hit one gravel road and your dash will be rattling for the rest of it's life. Not even talking about the hijacking risk.

Nope. And not an anti-VW thing.

VW used to be the peoples car, but now they're overpriced for what you get. While the competition has surpassed them on standard specification and in some instances even build quality.

As for the normal Polo, even some of these entry level cars come with better standard specification...
