Vehicle registration colour

So I bought a Ford Fiesta 1.3 Flair for my youngster. Car is 2003 model with 109000km and FSH.

It passed the roadworthiness test and then I went to the local traffic department to register it. On the blue form (RLV) at the main colour section I marked "Other" and specified "GOLD" (which I found out is actually called Champagne silver)

The person assisting me at the Traffic department then advised me that it cannot be registered because the current information says it is white in colour. She told me I must take it for Police Clearance because they cannot change the colour on the system. And I must also take it for MicroDots. How much does this all cost ?

Can somebody please explain this colour classification when it comes to registering a used car.

The simpler solution is to just go back and register the car as white ;) So long as it's registered as the correct colour with your car insurance, I don't think the eNatis colour matters a bit.

My sister's Corsa hatchback was listed as a sedan on the disc. Each year I'd try to have it changed, but without any luck. The insurance paid out without issue when it was written off.

I registered my Mini as blue when it was down as white. The woman asked me why and I said I was re spraying it blue. She registered it as blue with out any further discussion.

I'm just worried what happens when he gets stopped say at a roadblock or something. Won't there be problems if the car is registered as white and not champagne silver (gold) ? The car had 2 owners before. I obtained a vehicle history report based on the previous licence numbers. The 1st owner had it registered as Champagne Silver (the correct colour) and the 2nd owner had it as white.

Ok problem sorted. Took it for Police clearance. They send me for MicroDots that cost me R500. They then just completed the Police clearance form and I went to my Traffic Department and car was registered.

So you paid R500 just so you could have Champagne silver on the registration form instead of white?

Traffic department refused to register car without Police clearance. Clearance center insisted on MicroDot certificate before they would give me clearance certificate. MicroDot center charged R500 to affix the MicroDots and issue MicroDot certificate. So basically YES I paid R500.

I would have just registered it the colour it was. Microdots don't help much getting your car back in original condition.

I'd also be worried about future issues and problems by keeping it registered as white. Rather pay the R500

I had a similar issue, I have a "Midnight Blue" proton a clunker but it's paid. I changed insurance took it for a inspection and the guy wrote "Black" on the form the insurer phoned me to say there will be a change in my premium of something like 25% because the colour is different. I asked her what she bases the colour on she said "You tell us" I confirmed it was blue and kept the lower price.

I wonder if the manufacturers do this on purpose ? The paper says the car is "Blue" so then the insurance should accept it even if it is pretty close to black.

Wonder how they can insist on microdots now ? thought it was optional.

I would be more worried about what the keystone cops have in mind for a bribe amount

When is Microdotting required?
•As from the 1st September 2012, all newly registered vehicle need to have microdots fitted.
•From the same date, all vehicle requiring SAPS (Police) Clearance, will require Microdotting.

More information. https://www.datadot.co.za/content/rpc.php

Wow ok so I guess it is on all new cars didn't realize this, some cars display it on a sticker or something so I thought it was some added feature..
