My uncle is buying a car for me, however he wants to have the car registered on his name until I have repayed him. I am getting the car tomorrow, but he is going away for the holidays on Sunday for 20days.. I understand that we have 21 days to register the car onto his name. Is it possible for me to take my uncle's ID to register it onto his name. What is the process? What docs do we need?

Thank you:wtf:

Yes it is possible.
You need his ID book and the original proof of purchase (receipt). This must have the VIN on it.
Then you drive to the local vehicle licencing department, stand in the help queue, get the forms, fill them out, stand in the registrations queue, hand over lots of money, get given what is called a log-book, but it is in fact a certificate of registration, and also your first license disk.
Attatch the disk to the windscreen of the car.
Go have plates made and fitted.

Sit back and relax, safe in the knowledge that you just handed over a good 12 nights of fun money for paperwork.

DO NOT LOSE THE LOG BOOK.
I repeat.
DO NOT LOSE THE LOG BOOK.

Also... take proof of residence for your uncle with. And if he's going away, what are the chances of him leaving his ID with you?

Just to be on the safe side, get a letter to go along with the ID saying I, Uncles Name (Uncles ID Number) authorize Your Name (Your ID Number) to act on my behalf for the purposes of registering a motor vehicle (Current Registration If Available)

Yea, I love that "letter", because the person behind the counter can compare the signature on the letter with .. um um um um .. nothing.
They accept the fact that you have your hands on the ID book and the Receipt as proof enough.
