In the middle of the snapshots of websites showing the Oscar Saga, I saw one with Jon Venables and wandered why the hell that was back in the news. Here's why.

The attorney general is investigating after photographs said to show one of James Bulger's killers were allegedly posted on the internet.

...
There is a worldwide ban on publishing anything revealing Venables' current identity.

...
He added: "It should be noted, there is a worldwide injunction in place which prevents the publication of any images or information purporting to identify anyone as Jon Venables."

How the hell does a worldwide injunction exist? Do countries regarded as pariahs to the UK, like Zim, really give a crap about a UK court making a "worldwide" injunction? Can another country legislate or litigate on behalf of the world?

I also noticed that yesterday and found it most strange. I can't imagine that every single country would really care about it that much? Then again, in places like Zim the media is controlled by the government anyway isn't it? And they probably couldn't really be bothered about this case in the first place.

I must say, and I don't know why, but this case has really pulled at my nerves since I first ever heard about it. Not sure why, maybe it's because of my 2 year old niece. But everytime I remember, think or read about it, I get a serious case of the chills and can't help feeling so sad for this little kid and his family.

Ditto - that is exactly why I chased up that story when I saw the screengrab on news24. To this day, I feel those little bastards evaded the justice they deserved. It in fact opened up a debate of conscious responsibility and the age of awareness.

He deserves to be exposed, kicked in his nutsack, and have a shiv buried in his back.

Arrogant Jon Venables is taunting prison staff - bragging that he is "untouchable".

James Bulger's killer - put back behind bars two weeks ago over child porn claims - shamelessly trades on the fact that his identity must be kept a strict secret.

Venables, 27, who spends his time on a PlayStation and munching up to 10 bags of Maltesers a day, told officers: "One hair on my head gets hurt and you're in the s***."

Only a handful of senior staff at the jail where he is held know his true identity. Officers have been warned they face the sack - or even jail terms - if they reveal his identity.

A Home Office source said: "Venables is lording it up in there and quite frankly it's sickening. He is not even paying for his own sweets - the prison picks up the tab.

Shower

"He eats Maltesers all day and has a PlayStation to himself to try to keep him happy.

"Everyone thought he would be terrified of people finding out who he is but it seems that couldn't be further from the truth.

"He's as cocky as they come and knows that if anything happens to him then heads will roll."

The People knows which prison Venables is in but cannot report it. Ministers insist that exposing him could lead to vigilante attacks and prejudice any criminal trial he may face.

The only time he leaves his cell is for a shower and an hour's exercise each day.

is the assertion that the handful of people who know who he is have issued a hands of warning against him? why would they do this?

if only a handful know, how can others be sacked for revealing his identity if in the first instance they do not know who is?

It's all irrelevant as that was back 3 years ago.(2010) Since then (in 2011) he's been jailed indefinitely and nobody knows where and nobody cares except for maybe some con who'd like his 15 minutes of fame.

Venables 'locked up indefinitely'

Jon Venables, the killer of Liverpool toddler James Bulger, will stay in prison indefinitely because he cannot be trusted to keep a lid on his dark past, it has been reported.
Venables and his friend Robert Thompson were just 10 when they were jailed for life after they abducted, tortured and murdered two-year-old James Bulger in 1993.
Both were released in 2001 and given new identities for their own safety.
But Venables was jailed again last year on child pornography charges. The court heard he claimed online to be a woman who was willing to let her daughter be abused by paedophiles.
According to sources, officials have now ruled out giving him another false identity, because they reportedly believe he is not able to keep his dark past secret.
It means Venables will remain in prison for the foreseeable future, though he will be able to apply for parole periodically in an attempt to convince the authorities they can trust him on the outside.
Robin Makin, solicitor for James's father Ralph, said: "It does not surprise me.
"The reality is the authorities can't handle the situation. How could they?
"They are in an impossible situation."
A Ministry of Justice spokesman declined to comment.

But back on track... the real far reaching issue is this. http://tinyurl.com/c79cp5l

What's a UK judge gonna do to me if I post the guys picture?

That is precisely the basis of my question. That UK judge cannot tell me (or any other south african in south africa) what to do. How am I bound by his decision? Is there some agreement that we don't know about?

You are not bound and No judge will do anything anywhere at least not now because to quote
The UK contempt of court laws are focused on regulating publishers and journalists and not individual members of the general public, but with social media everyone is potentially now a publisher, and the law cannot, it seems, deal with this. Consultation to rectify this is underway and reforms to the law are in the pipeline but changing the law is a slow process, and is much slower than the technological advances it attempts to police; it is likely that by the time the law has been amended to deal with the current threats posed to the justice system by the abuse of the social media laws then new ways to abuse the system, that hadn't been anticipated or legislated for, will have developed.
