Ventrilo Cap Eater

hi

i am a normal raiding wow player that uses vent and i have found out that its eating my cap away i downloaded a bandwith moniter and when i am not running vent and only on wow my kbps is like 1kps as soon as i load vent and someone talks in vent it shoots up to 10kbps and my cap just disapears is there anyone else that has had this problem and knows how to fix it

Seems like you have a problem. I use Ventrillo when I play multiplayer online games and if I open up a voice stream I use around 3-4KBps (kilobytes per second) upstream and 1KBps downstream (and 3-4down and 1 up if I receive a stream). Skype as a comparator uses ~12-15KBps up and down combined.

But this is for one stream to a single person and working on the assumption that you are not the server. The Ventrillo server uses ~1.5KBps per person connected and for each person connected a combined ~4-7KBps is used. Does this answer your question?

With Vent (and Teamspeak) you can set the codec and bitrate of the server/channel. Higher bitrates will use more bandwidth. If you own/run/rented the server, simply ask the provider to set it to a lower bitrate. If you are using someone else's server, you will have to get them to set it.

Lower bitrates does mean lower voice quality, and not many people will simply lower the bitrate for a single person.

If there are 25 members then it would have to be a rented/owned server (max for free version is 8). Get whoever owns it to drop the bitrate, as suggested.

I just wish that we could get rid or even get higher caps in SA for less than wha t isp's are charging now anyone know of any ISP's that have bigger caps for less or if there are any left after telkoms stupid charge per cap law its so stupid
