Can you believe these people actually charged me for a telephonic consulation (R43) (I called them to sort it out) and then R17 to email me the account I am trying to resolve?!!?!?!

without even the courtesy of a pre-recorded message to say that if they answer the call and put you through to someone that you will be charged...

and tell me when i ask you to email me what I need to settle that its gonna cost me... how many other people do they fleece this way!

Feeling a little shafted right now... by the medical aid and ampath and these collection sharks....

Why did Ampath hand you over to Vericred? Also as far as I know, "debtcollectors" cannot legally charge you for this. They must charge their client ( Ampath in this case )

Pay what you owe Ampath. If Vericred keeps on about these "costs", start billing them for YOUR time.

It's possible Vericred are not collecting for Ampath but purchased their Bad Debts book in which case it's legal (but still a dubious practice).

I just wouldn't pay either the R43 or the R17, if those charges were not disclosed to you up front.

Its will take take 15 min of your day, but Contact the council for debt collectors + 27 12 804 8483, state your objection and lay a complaint.

Vericredit would have to be registered with the council. The Council is obliged to investigate your complaint and will request a response from Vericredit, and the chances are your costs will be reversed.

However, if Vericredit does agree to reverse the costs, make sure you get something in writing from them to confirm. I can almost guarantee that some supervisor will agree to write of and then conveniently ignore it after that, and a month later the phone calls will start again.

I run a collection agency and companies like Vericredit give us all a bad name. More than often the staff are unskilled, do not earn a basic salary and work only on commission hence why they are are so ruthless in their collections.

Unless more consumers start complaining companies like that will continue with this sort of practice.

thanks all

I did phone back and dump all my toys out the cot. They agreed to credit the consultation but only one of the email costs. Leaving it up to the medical aid now as they did say they paid the account in full last year... just conveniently doesn't seem to show...
