So, I ordered the 1MB service with the self-install option. The set me up very quickly and my modem connects, but I can only surf the telkom site. They give me a url to go to: http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl and the port is meant to be opened for all internet surfing once I verify my adsl. Problem is that the whole weekend the verification server was down and now the verification server is timing out.

Was anyone else asked to go that site?
If yes, were you able to verify and then start using your connection?
If no, how can I complete the self-install that doesn't involve that site?

F'ing Telkom - they just HAD to make something simple more complicated (and error-prone) by adding a verification server....

just pay 400 to set up less hassle

NO, thats what they want, pay them ridiculous amounts to do something that can be done by yourself in 10mins.

The problem here is not with the self install/what the techies would do.

Had the same problem. Got it sorted out over the phone. Took about 2 hours. Phoned 0800375375 and they got if sorted. Hope it helps.

Verify ADSL

The verify site worked fine for me.

35 Mins later I could browse fine.

I went to the site and it gave me some error or something but i ignored it and am surfing and gaming quite happily,so i dunno if its just a load of bs that thing.

I did the self install.

Cheers

i tried verifying my new adsl line last night through that telkom website but i get some DSLAM or something like that error.

I phoned them up and the woman said she could'nt help but she'll send an e-mail.

Anybody know how i can bypass this and just get the thing to work?

The verifyadsl site has been down (more correctly put error-ridden) for ages now. Try to verify your line, but ignore the feedback generated by the page. Once you've then onfigured your ISP account in your router you should be able to surf without hassles. Otherwise try 0860 375 375 - they can verify your line for you. Or go throw your toys around at your local Telkom store...

ok thanx for the help.

How do i put my ISP settings in the Router?
I have one of those wireless combo Telkom routers.

First you need to open an account with an ISP then log onto your router (default 10.0.0.2). Do you have the Premium Combo, or the WR100?

finally got it working. Telkom verified the line from their side.

I'm trying tot setup 2 connections to 2 different isp's but cant get this to work.

I have the combo wireless telkom router.

Can anyone help? Looks like the router connects by itself.

Thanks dawie54. Now I have to rig a contraption to get the phone to the PC.

I took a telephone extension cord and connected the F100 ADSL filter to it to get the phone and ADSL modem/router to the PC.

Phoned the ADSL 24hr help desk, with phone and ADSL modem/router, connected via the F100 ADSL filter. After about 45 minutes, an operator assisted me. He tasked a few questions, I answered. He could not get a synchronisation from the ADSL modem/router. I told him I was using the phone to make the verification. He asked my cell no to phone me to sync the ADSL modem/router because he does not see it. After phoning me back the verification is complete.

The weird thing now as soon as I pick up the phone the blinking DSL LED on the Mega 100WR goes out. According to help desk operator the F100 ADSL filter is to split the line for the phone and fax while using ADSL. Logic is telling me I still need a signal splitter to split ADSL and the normal phone line. ATM I can either ADSL or normal phone, not both of them at the same time.

As soon as I disconnect the F100 filter, I get a constant illuminated DSL LED.

Regarding the filters, there is a better way of doing it and you only need 1 filter for your entire house, regardless of how many phones you have. This way is also much better if you have an alarm system that uses the phone line to dial out to the alarm company. Put a double jack on your main incoming line. Run a new cable from the output side of the double jack direct to the DSL modem. Plug a filter into the other output of the new double jack and plug the rest of your house into the output side of the filter. This is almost as good as using a true DSL splitter and cuts down on interference between the alarm box and the DSL signal. It also enables the alarm to seize the analogue part of the line and dial out in the event of an activation, without dropping your DSL signal. We have 3 phones, 2 PC modems and a fax machine all plugged into the circuit, running through one filter, which is hidden away, so no ugly micro filters all over the house either.

I tried the option mentioned by Teejay in the ADSL Newbie FAQ thread. It solves my issue. I can now use my phone and have a constant on DSL LED on the Mega 100WR modem/router.

Thanks Teejay, sometimes it help to just go to other threads too.

Verification was successful as stated above. When can I start surfing? As soon as I have an ISP or as soon as I am billed for the service?

As soon as you have an ISP and put the account details into the router, you should be good to go.
