Very good advertisement for Telkom

I had a few interested friends over to show them all the marvels of ADSL - being a TelkomInternet subscriber myself and using one of the modems supplied by Telkom. Unfortunately during my "demonstartion" I had a constant signal lost (due to the modem?) and very slow speed (something that is normal for the last couple of weeks). Results; they are still interested in ADSL, but they do not want to subscribe to Telkom or use any of Telkom's modems. I wonder why?
