PostNet in Kloof Street loaned me a Neotel Prime unit to test over the weekend and I was very impressed with it.

I applied for a Neotel Prime Unlimited account at R999 a month, just had to fill in a few forms and pay R1000 deposit, 36 hours later I have my phone and am achieving speeds of between 500 and 700 kbps download and 50 - 70 kbps upload.

I have shared the internet connection from my iMac through Airport and have connected my iPhone and Acer Netbook successfully.

Very happy with Neotel and their service.

Thanks to Delia at the Kloof Street Postnet for her excellent service :-)

so who do you work for?
Is it Neotel? Postnet? which one?

You post smacks of spam and the content is so funny, like reading a kiddies fairy tale!!

Can anyone tell me if Neotel has a good signal strength in Centurion Golf Estate, Valley Crescent as well as Portebello street?

Signal fluctuates a tad at my location.

9:02 great signal
9:03 - 9:37still going strong, great stuff
you get all excited and open a second browser and download mails......arggh, klunk klunk dead
9:38 - 11:12 trying to explain to neotel techie how to do his job
11:13 reboot modem, login works, open email dies
repeat until
12:46
12:47 go get headache pille and lie down for a while
1:55 reboot modem works, ok a tad slow but can browse and wallah woo, download mail at the same time
1:56 - 4:14 - got some work done but then........dead
4:15 - 4:40 reboot, no internet, repeat, internet 30 seconds, wait repeat
4:40 phone support, the dude hears my voice and groans in the background.
we banter a bit, i tell him his service is sucky, he says nooo, the techies are doing upgrades, when he cant say, anyhow we chew the fat about neotel but not much joy

cut the story short from about 5 - 11 had to reboot 3 times
(on a router thaT never requires rebooting) and from 11 - 330 so far behaving ok.
next step is to get a refund from the accounts departmnet every day i dont connect as it should

Uhm, except most of us are getting good speeds on Neotel. You'll notice that the forum has largely gone quiet. Mostly isolated cases of people having problems now.

This is a joke!!!
You must work for Neotel!
Neotel is the worst!

doesn't matter how good the signal is! upload 3 - 9 KB??? 6MB Email 3 Hours! this is normal for Neotel.
No Internet when your Phone rings or you Speak! (Download get cut!!!)
-Downtime
-wrong Debit order date
-no support (one monkey from the Hot line told me to defrag my C Drive. My C Drive is the course, that the latency of Neotel is so high!

I don't know what Neotel package you're referring to, but the Prime packages have poor upload speeds. Neotel has never tried to hide this fact. The same can be said for voice calls interrupting your downloads. If you don't like it, you shouldn't have bought it.

I am with you on the support desk grievance though.

That's because most of us have probably given up. The Neotel rep can do only so much, and the real problem lies with Neotel's useless technical team. There is almost no point in talking to them, as some of them don't even understand what the terms "ping" and "latency" mean... I'm so fed up with them.

Well yes, it's fine to be fed up with them, but there are people fed up with Telkom and Vodacom also. Go check the forums there. Just because a handful of you are experiencing super crap speeds doesn't mean it applies to the rest of us. To go jumping up and down screaming "neotel is teh wurzt evar!11!" is just lame.

I agree with TMoose, I am changing from Iburst to Neotel Prime Unlimited and I know someone on the forum who I chat on msn and who also got Neotel and he is happy with Neotel.

Eish, I have just been looking at HelloPeter.com and it doesn't look good. The same copy & paste response to most complaints:

We would like to thank you for providing us regular feedback regarding the technical issues you are experiencing with our service. This problem is intermittent in nature, and therefore isolating the core reason has become a challenge.

This is a top company priority and all of the customer input is being considered during the investigation.
As part of our analysis we have embarked on location based testing (with customers) to ensure that the problem is replicated and a solution developed.
