Hey whats up!

So I read about this cabel that alows me to play my Xbox using only my monitor...I want to get this so I can play the only game I have and the only one I probably ever will have, GTA IV.

I just want to know, how do I conect the sound part, I have a logitech 5.1 Speaker system, and the Amp is way under how do I connect the sound?:confused::confused:

Nah, this cable is awesome.

It has a VGA part that goes into the screen and has the red and white cables (I think it's called the component, heck I forgot, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) that in your case will simply plug into the rear of your sound system.

Do as Zerosplice has said or if you buy the official Xbox VGA HD CABLE, it comes with a 3.5mm connector that allows you to connect both the red and white into one and this then goes directly into the Aux OUT (or audio OUT same thing). If not, most sound cards come with a line-in connector use this then in Windows (or sound app) just say output line-in sound to speakers. :D

Do it that way or attach it to the audio out on the amp. Extension and all sorts are available at Hi-Fi Corp.

I hooked up my xbox direct to lcd monitor this weekend, HD gaming, the way to go, huge detail difference.
Purchased the HD VGA cable from gamers exchange in Edenvale(its R240).
Re the Audio, I wanted to use the screen built in speakers - so this was a bit of a mission - what you need bascially is an RCA to 3.5 sound card converter - and I searched Makro, Dion wired and Hi Fi corp, and none had.
Spoke to about 3 floor people at Hi-Fi and the one dude was adament they had nothing and that I should get one made up.
Anyhow he was wrong - I went to their PC cable section as they didn't have what I needed in the audio section - what I got there was RCA to 3.5 plug (sound card) as it was male RCA's (R39) (female would have been better) I then got from their audio section RCA coupling (R9) - basically it lets you join an RCA male from each side.
Here is what I find the strange part- yet maybe its not because I am a bit of a technophobe, anyhow I connected the red RCA sound to the Red and the white to the white - seems logical, yet no sound.
For a brief second I thought the dude form hi-fi corp was right, but realising this is almost impossible, I pulled out one of the cables and plugged in the yellow video cable to either the red or white , and presto Houston, we have sound.
There is a button on the cable that you select either VGA or RCA and I think when you select VGA it also changes maybe how the RCA cables function, because there is no logical explanation I can find for the yellow video to now be the audio cable, but it all works and a lot cheaper than a HD TV!!

Uh, there is a dedicated 5.1 optical out on all the 360 Cables. So if your 5.1 System has an optical in, it's as simple as buying in the right cable.

WAIT A TICK! were does the red and white cable go into? your like Computer case??? were does the speakers plugs then go??? mu speakers dont have that red white and yellow thingings, its only in the amp... and like all the plugs in the amp are allready in use...

The red and white cables are the stereo left and right 'aux' pair.

For 5.1 you need something with an optical in.

Just get a 2 to 1 converter. You put both the RED and WHITE cables into the converter and then plug in the single connector. It can either be a single RCA or a 3.5mm connector, think the 3.5 will provide more use as it gives you the option to plug it into the line-in socket on your sound card. Its normally the blue port.

Not necessarily Doobi, I have a connected mine up with the red and white and the 5.1 is awesome. Its sounds so pretty flying through the air into a ball of hay:D

The red and white cables are only gonna give you stereo sound dude. It migh sound good, but its not 5.1

Only way to get 5.1 out of any component is via a digital out, or optical out. To listen to 5.1 sound you need to run it through a receiver (amp) capable of decoding 5.1 sound i.e. Dolby Digital or DTS enabled receiver. Anything else is just stereo or the amp doing its best to interpret what sound should be routed to the various speakers.

You really only get virtual surround sound of such a setup.

Kind of like Dolby Logic Pro you see on equipment of a few years ago. If you can't afford dedicated 5.1 surround equipment, then stereo or virtual surround will have to do :D

Yip ... you still get surround sound with 2 stereo plugs : Dolby Pro Logic & Dolby Pro Logic II. The surround track is embedded in the stereo and you need to decoder to 'pull' it using a DPL/DPLII decoder.

These are no where near the discreet 5.1 sound - however, it's still pretty good! If I remember correctly, you get 4 ch surround with Pro Logic and 5 ch surround with Pro Logic II.

You're right Dolby. I have an old Panasonic Dolby Pro Logic hi-fi connected to my PC. It's ok, but not discreet 5.1 as you put it.

At some stage I'll get a Logitech surround sound system and hook up my xbox and dvd player to it. For some serious bedroom gaming ;)

What the efff is an optical in and out?? how do I get sound with my 5.1 speakers..

You can get yourself a FEMALE to FEMALE speaker jack (wich Im using, piad about R10) Use the 3.5mm connector to join the two RCA wires, then use the FEMALE to FEMALE connecter and then plug your computes speakers directly on the other side.
