TLDR: Telkom sucks, what other fixed cost (infrastructure and uncapped/unshaped) broadband can I buy for R1000 per month?

I live in Northcliff. This is, one would think, well-serviced by Telkom since it is in the middle of Johannesburg, but it is not. I suspect economies of scale suck in suburbia in general. Telkom have poured the concrete foundation for a fibre-linked MSAN 2 years ago, but I think it's just for show and they have no intention of actually connecting it to anything.

I have ADSL. It only synchs at 2 mbps MAX. On a good day. I haven't had a good day in months and these days the best I can get is 1403 mbps. The line frequently disconnects. When I have the energy to overcome the futility, I log yet another call with Telkom. Half the time (not exaggerating) the calls are closed with no visible action taken or improvement made. The SLA just hits three days and I get an automated SMS telling me my service is restored. Which is utter bovine doodoo.

I have an uncapped/unshaped Afrihost Business account. In total, my monthly cost for 2mbps (haha) and unlimited internet is about R1k, all in.

I am at the end of my tether and would like to kick Telkom to curb, since kicking them in the nuts presupposes that they had any to start with.

What other options are there?

Why are you paying so much? You can log a refund as well if you have a fault, one week down = month free.

Got a friend who lives in allens nek, Telkom refuse to put lines in cos they get stolen. He got himself on neotel broadband, R1200pm for uncapped 6mb, FUP 600gb. I think the 4mb is 999. He's loving it.

Damn! Just discovered this thread while looking for alternatives myself and I see Bitco no longer offers the Home option. They would've been ideal as they cover the area I'm in and their offering suits my needs. Are there any similar alternatives?
