Have any of you guys heard or perhaps purchased one of these 3G USB modems? Purchased one from the matrix warehouse today but I am unable to get my 3G to work.. keep getting "failed to connect!" without any reasonings behind it...

Using vista on a hp notebook. What could i try?

Have seen it advertised in one of the banners on here...but have never heard of it before. What software does it come with? Seeing that it is not Vodacom approved and issued, you might have to enter settings manually to get it to connect. Have you checked your dialing number and APN? The number the modem needs to dial is *99# and the APN must be set to "internet" without the quotes.

You might be able to creat a dial up account under "networking" in windows. Have you tried that? Does your notebook see the modem when it is pulgged in?

How much did you pay for it out of interest sakes?

Kind Regards:

Thanks for the reply :)

I bought it from the matrix warehouse for R999. The box that it comes in has an icasa approved sticker so im assuming it should work. The 3G is from my dads work and having spoken to someone from the it department he told me that i need to set the APN to "mobile.is.co.za" and leave the number to dial blank. The software that comes with the USB modem is Victory USB 300 PC manager. It has a setting to choose vodacom south africa which i have used. Is it possible that i would maybe need to change things such as the DNS etc..? My notebook does seem to see the modem as it shows under my computer - device manager

I have not tried connecting to the network manually.. you reckon it'll work? where do i set the apn name if i do it manually

Perhaps follow this link: http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/vodacom_broadband/downloads.jsp and download the full VMC software version. See if it works with this particular modem. It is not listed as a compatible modem on the Vodacom site but who knows, perhaps it works. The software comes with the correct Vodacom setttings etc, so you should not have to change anything.

Please revert back here if this solved your problem.

I had problems with my ZTE K3575 not working. i.e. showing no device all the time. So I decided to buy the Victory Dongle From Matrix Warehouse. Currently selling for R499. I swapped my sim, plug it into the pc, the pc asked me if I wanted to use it as a modem or usb device, I chose modem. It installed and rebooted the pc. And so far it has been flawless. Works like a dream, plus I like the un-Vodafoney Dashboard.
