Hey everyone
Just thought I'd share my video calling experiences this past weekend with you. I'm on MTN MyCall 100, and have the Nokia N80 Internet Edition phone, with a 3G Sim.
This past weekend I decided to video call a friend of mine. She is on Vodacom pre paid, Samsung J750, 3G Sim. The whole exercise was a nightmare, for a number of reasons. My 3G signal in my neighbourhood is next to nothing, and varies as I walk around the house. It fluctuates madly, and often has periods of complete deadness with no signal.
The call itself is very choppy, with video breaking up often. Audio quality is also not great. I can live with those, but the constant dropping of the call is what grates me. That and when the fact that the call is established, but not long after gets dropped, with no video or audio having come through.
I'm willing to say that my phone may be an issue, it's not the great phone I thought it would be, but the problem seems to be more general than that. I always have had major hassles with my 3G connection, so I'm pretty much stuck in using GSM.
I just wish the networks could get their ducks in a row and sort these little irritations out.
I'd be keen to hear any other problems anyone may have had using video calls.
