How does one go about doing this?

I've just bought a Samsung i780 with video calling and my brother has a W850i with video calling - but we can't speak to each other :(

We're both on Vodaco - but it just said 'not available' or something to that effect.

Is there a setting or something we've missed?

dial *111#
and activate 3G video calling

Thanks ... activated it and got it working - once in about 20 tries!

If it established a connection once, I can only assume the networks suck :/

Different phones and different connections also dont help much. You connecting on HSDPA and him on 3G, theoretically it should work no problems, but what I found it doesnt always work properly.

Also has cross network video calling working these days? I cant remember....

Yes, but last time I checked both phones must be connected to 3G network (Icon indicating 3G connection must be lit) before video call is successful.

This is rather silly, because it means the person on the other phone must always be aware of the fact that they must move around until a good 3G signal is acquired before you can make a video call to them. This would mean sending at least a sms to them beforehand informing them you are going to place a videocall to them.

Think thats correct, 3G is required.

Nope - they're not.

At this stage I just want to see the technology work more than once ;) It's a hit-and-miss affair right now.

I've never had a problem with it... but my phone is usually forced to 3G.
