Bloemfontein - The University of the Free State (UFS) cleaners who appear in the controversial Reitz video were not offended when the video was being made, and had laughed when they saw the end product.

According to the submission, the day after the video was made, the cleaners were informed that the video had won the residence's cultural competition. It was shown to them on more than one occasion and they had not reacted negatively in any way whatsoever when they saw the footage.
Furthermore, the submission states it was only once others had falsely convinced them that the concoction they'd had to pretend to drink contained urine, that they raised their objections.

This was six months later, when the video inexplicably found its way onto the UFS network, and was distributed by two students from the Khayalami men's residence

A careful study of the video confirms this. There are no dangerous or "unclean" ingredients in the concoction.

I would also be upset if someone told me that something I was made to drink was in fact an obnoxious substance. Can you blame them? The fact is we will never know now what was in that stuff. If there was a court case it would revolve around what the original four pranksters said and did what their motivation was for making the video. Did they ever tell anyone else what was in the substance?

Why is this only coming to light now?

As I recall the victims laughing at the video was public knowledge a long time ago so I don't know why they are bringing this up again now.

The point is they weren't aware of what was in the mix....

It's all fun and games until somebody looses an eye.

And they can not smell or taste the diff between oros and wee:o

If it was indeed something unsavoury, then surely somebody would have been able to taste/smell it?

tell that to all the people of the world that take the first mouthful of sour milk :D

"The narration on the video begins: “Once upon a time the ‘boere’ lived peacefully here on Reitz Island, until one day when the less-advantaged discovered the word ‘integration’ in the dictionary.”

The cleaners take part in a “boat race” (a beer-downing competition), a dance, a sprint race, a mock rugby practice and finally, they’re given a mixture to drink.

The video shows garlic being put into a dish full of what looks like dog food.

“We know they’re less privileged so we’re adding a bit of meat,” says the narrator.

Another student puts the bowl on the toilet and urinates into the mixture.

The brew is then distributed in plastic glasses to the cleaners.

All five of them spit out the first mouthful, but try to finish it amid loud encouragement from the students.

The video ends with the words: “That, at the end of the day, is what we think of integration.”

Was this was clean fun?

WE all saw the video. We all saw everybody laugh.

No this is not clean fun. But nobody was chained or forced to do anything.

I find it disgusting but some people find jackass entertaining.

Sounds like an initiation. Maybe a bit harsh, but I heard of worse.

I also, vaguely, remember drinking a concoction at my bachelors, which was not very palatable. I was assured there was no unsavoury stuff in it, but who knows?

The only reason why this is an issue, is because it was white kids that initiated black cleaners. Nobody had a problem, until it was pointed out that it aught to be one.

Do you inititate your housemate or any of your assistants?

In Uni yes we were and we did. In the youth hostel we played horrible pranks on people.:D But we never forced anybody to do anything against their will. And I think that is why this is so strange to those boys, when it was happening and for 6 months after it everybody was laughing about it.

And suddenly it turned into something ugly.

Almost like you and your girlfriend shagging like rabbits, her finding her religion afterwards and telling everybody you forced her and she wanted to be a Virgin when she got married.

A bit after the fact is it not?

Mila, you played these pranks with your equals, not your elders, that is the difference. Is it acceptable in the western culture and traditions to play unsavoury pranks on your elders?

Yes we played the pranks on elders too. But the point is these " elders" were partaking of their own free will. They were not pranked. They took part in an tasteless video ( not un like the Jackass stuff). We never see them being forced to do anything, we only see them laughing.

I can't believe there are still people defending these cretins.

Another student puts the bowl on the toilet and urinates into the mixture.

If it was your mother who was coerced into consuming this would you still find it a funny student prank ?
