View Database Info without knowing anything about SQL with the Microsoft Sql Tool

Still seems like a silly idea to give non-technical people any sort of database access.

You'll get some clown wanting a billion rows of data who will a) complain that it's taking too long and b) bring your company's production systems down.

No thanks.

Also with this software - what sort of support is provided? Update and upgrades? What sort of a EULA do users have to agree to? And if there isn't one you can expect lawyers to come asking after you if things go wrong when using this tool.

Hi, ok... I've defaulted all the generated queries as a top 100 order by primary key desc. So by default you won't get that behaviour. Also, mentioning this to everyone using the app, if you don't know sql, don't write your own queries just yet, or you'll bring the server down as you said. In future releases I might include user roles so that poeple in the call center and so on cannot change a query, just generate and view data...

I haven't gotten that far concerning a EULA. I'll do support and provide updates as necessary. Obviously nothing is perfect until a user out there discovers a bug...Thanx for the advice.

Forgot to mention, all queries by default timeout on 30s additional to what I've mentioned.

Does anyone know where I can find an online test database to connect to make screenshots or a demo video? I cannot use our databases because of the sensitive information...

Screenshots?

Hi, here is a short video clip showing the app. Obviously not high quality, hopefully you can catch the gist of it. One or two features I didn't show in the demo. The ability to add your own lookups to jump from one table to the next, basically your own custom "foreign key links". The other is to transpose the data from horizontal to vertical. I wanted to do better with the video, there's no voice, but I had some hickups to getting this done by now...

@OP
That's a pretty neat tool. I'm not sure the other posters are really understanding the significant ease-of-use benefit your tool provides. Perhaps a YouTube video (instead of the screenshots you mentioned earlier) would be the best way to demonstrate the use of this tool.

Question: are you sure the app is your's? Sounds like you developed it in-house, meaning that it most likely belongs to your employer..? I'm not saying this is the case, I'm merely seeking clarification on this.

GLWS(s)! :)

Ok, I eventually got something going and could do a quick demo:

As i"ve mentioned, one or two features I ommitted in the demo. And there were some hickups with the AdventureWorks DB as it's version 2005. Hopefully you can see what it's all about in the short clip.
