How can I copy a DVD to my notebook's HDD so that I can watch the DVD without having the disk?
My OS is XP
If I need software I would prefer to use opensource, but I am still prepared to pay for propriety software if this will produce a better result

DVDShrink.

It's free. You can either choose to copy it to an .ISO (image) file or you can copy it in the raw format.

VLC (VideoLAN Client) can then play it for you, regardless of the format you chose above.

Handbrake will take it a step further and convert the dvd to a much smaller avi.

ok i know your more than likely choosing a free option because you dont wanna pay for something that will help you alot more than free programs that u so many option but check this out:

yes its 29.95 but its simple and easy to use, sometimes paying for software is the best and 30 dolla aint much in terms of money AND YOUR KEY IS VALID FOR AS LONG AS YOU USE THE PROGRAM

look around the winavi site if you want dvd to avi they also have a program

winavi is by the far the best ripping and converting software i have tried
