I bought a Viewsonic Viewpad 7 3G in Netherlands a few weeks ago. In NL and Russia I simply had to put in a SIM card and 3G internet worked. I didn't even tell the cell SIM card dealer what I weanted to use the SIM for. I was able to use 3G and phone without any adjustments, it just worked.

What do I need to do to make it work here in SA ? I've tried MTN, Vodacom 3G and telephone SIM with data bundles and it just wouldn't use 3G, voice functions are ok. Any advice on how to make the Viewsonic Viewpad 7 use MTN 3G ?

can try settings>wireless&networks>mobile networks>access point names> ... . delete the apn's in there and get new ones sent to your tablet

dial *123# and follow the menus, or alternatively each tablet has its own way of getting the settings sent to them, some through the about tablet menu, other have a menu in wireless networks to scan for operator and/or apn.

failing that try get the settings from mtn to manually add them, and failing that, might just be your bad luck that its somehow locked to not use the data in south africa.
