VinFast plans 30 showrooms in California and first solid-state battery EV

Staying true to its name, VinFast lives in the fast lane of business expansion and technology development. For a company that was only founded in 2017 it’s a huge achievement to have been selling actual cars for over two years already. But VinFast has ambitious owners and is expanding globally bringing new cars to new markets and now it sets its sights on the US.

The secret sauce to the company’s success is its funding. Unlike the majority of startups, VinFast didn’t need to worry about money because it is part of Vietnam’s largest conglomerate - the Vingroup. This multi-industry and multi-billion organization doesn’t need outside funding and its relentless progress is the result.

The company is opening six new showrooms across the US next week with 30 planned to open in California alone by the end of this year. All showrooms are based in shopping centers and the first ones open up in San Diego, Berkeley, Santa Monica, Commerce, San Mateo and Corte Madera. At some point all cars sold in the US will come from its North Carolina factory which is currently under construction.

VinFast gets $1.2 billion incentive to open new factory in North Carolina

VinFast is all over the news these days and it’s all for good reasons. Only recently the company announced its plans to open 30 new showrooms in California and a week later it has already opened 6 of them. The bigger news though is the support it received from the State of North Carolina.

VinFast is planning to build a new manufacturing facility at the Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County. The first phase will see $2 billion incested by the company, the construction will cover 2,000 acres and will be split into two separate areas - manufacturing of electric cars and electric buses assembly. Maximum capacity will be 150,000 vehicles a year.

The State of North Carolina will contribute to the project to the tune of $1.2 billion with $316 million to be spent on job development over the next 32 years. $450 million will be contributed to road improvements and site preparations as well as new water and sewer infrastructure. Additional $38 million will go towards community college training and Golden Leaf Foundation will contribute another $50 million to that cause. Chatham County alone will contribute $400 million to the entire project.

VinFast put on a special event to celebrate delivery of the first units of the VF8. The celebrations took place at its factory in Hai Phong and was streamed live. The very first unit, in metallic orange, was handed over to the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Vietnam.

After the first 100 cars were handed over to earliest adopters in Vietnam, the company is already preparing a batch of 5,000 vehicles for export. The cars will be shipped to the US, Canada and Europe with customers expected to take delivery in December this year.

We’ve been wrong before, but you probably haven’t heard a great deal about Vinfast so far. Y’know, apart from the fact it tasked Pininfarina with its designs and David Beckham with... oh, something important.

But, as if to answer the question we know was just eating you from the inside, we have two new EV SUVs from Vietnam’s biggest car manufacturer, coming to the Paris Motor Show.

If we start with the VF 8 – which is, logically enough, the smaller one – we find a five-door and five-seat SUV with styling that wouldn’t look out of place coming from one of the legacy manufacturers. We get shades of Renault about the whole thing – which is only slightly odd, considering the design’s from Italian maestros Pininfarina – but you’d be hard-pressed to say it’s not exactly what you’d expect from a car in that segment. And when you remember what the first eastern European, Korean and Chinese cars looked like, it’s clear Vietnam wants to start quite a ways further along.

In terms of spec, it also seems to be landing right in the middle of the current crop – about 400bhp and 450lb ft from a dual-motor, AWD setup, with nought to 60mph apparently arriving somewhere in the low fives. Show some decorum with your right foot and you can apparently eke around 250 miles out of a full charge; real-life has a way of tamping down numbers like that, much like official mpg figures.

VinFast launches 4 EV models and sets up headquarters in Europe

VinFast is making itself comfortable in Europe and at the Paris Motor Show it launched all 4 of its electric cars. The smaller VF6 and VF7 belong respectively to B and C segments of the automotive market. Both were designed together by VinFast and Torino Design while the larger VF8 and VF9 were designed by Pininfarina.

VinFast already began deliveries of the VF8 in Taiwan, where the cars are manufactured. Further 5,000 is already booked for international deliveries before the end of this year. All VinFast cars come with a 10-year extensive warranty that includes the battery.

During the unveiling of its cars, VinFast confirmed its intentions to set up headquarters in the first three European markets - Germany, France and the Netherlands. The first flagship store will open in Cologne, Germany this November. There are VinFast stores being prepared in Paris, Nice, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Amsterdam and will open its doors by the end of 2022.

In the first quarter of next year VinFast will open its shops in Oberhausen, Marseille, Rennes, Montpellier and Metz. The headquarters of local markets are located in Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. The company is focused on customer service first and long before it decided to launch in Europe it already had hundreds of employees working hard on establishing connections with potential customers and creating a community of potential owners.

One day, Vinfast expects to offer the smaller VF6 and VF7 crossovers on these shores. Before that, it'll have to get its larger SUVs to reservation holders.

Vinfast’s foray into the U.S. market will begin with two electric SUVs: the mid-size VF8 and full-size, three-row VF9. Those were supposed to begin arriving to reservation holders before the end of this year, though as of yet, the only Vinfast products that have made their way to customers have done so elsewhere. Still, the company isn’t easing off the accelerator. It’s taken the opportunity of the Los Angeles Auto Show, beginning Thursday, to introduce the American public to the rest of its electric SUV range: the smaller VF6 and VF7.

One day, Vinfast hopes to sell these compact crossovers on these shores as well, to complement the VF8 and VF9. The VF6 and VF7 actually debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show way back in January, but the LA Auto Show will give visitors the chance to see both cars firsthand.

The smallest of the group, the VF6, wears a face reminiscent of the second-generation Nissan Juke not sold here. The VF7 gives off Mitsubishi vibes, with its stocky, Outlander-type profile. But really all of these SUVs look very similar inside and out, with the dashboard design especially holding constant to that big-ass-tablet-and-not-much-else motif across the range.

Vinfast is quickly becoming a sneaky bet in the EV market after adding two new electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, to its US lineup. With a four-electric SUV portfolio, one in each of the most popular segments, Vinfast is looking to become the “EV manufacturer for everyone.”

After Vinfast delivered its first electric model, the VF e34, making it the first EV sold in Vietnam, the company set its sights on becoming a global electric vehicle maker.

Vinfast is part of Vietnam’s largest private enterprise, Vingroup, which focuses on creating a “better life for people” with its sustainable technology and services.

The automaker made waves in the EV market after introducing the VF 8 and VF 9 at last year’s LA Auto Show. Within 48 hours of opening reservations for the electric SUVs, Vinfast says it received 24,000 global orders.

To align its strategy of becoming a global EV powerhouse, Vinfast vowed to end internal combustion vehicle (ICE) production by the end of 2022 while unveiling an electric model in every auto segment.

Vinfast delivered its first 100 VF 8 electric SUVs in September, reiterating its intentions to become a global brand. The company said the next batch (around 5,000) will be shipped to the United States, Canada, and Europe starting in November 2022, so customers could expect to start receiving them by the end of the year.

US customers will now have access to another two electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, as Vinfast gives us a closer look at what we can expect.

Keeping up with the progress of some of the EV companies can be tricky. While we may be used to slow developments from the US and European automakers, the Chinese market seems to be moving at a much faster pace. And then, there is VinFast from Vietnam, which didn’t even exist 5 years ago and sold its first EV only in December last year.

Now, VinFast is a global company and sells its electric cars in Europe and in the US among many other markets. The company has over 24,000 orders on its books and it is spreading its wings faster than we can keep up with. 5,000 vehicles are on the way to Europe, Canada and the US after VinFast launched the VF8 and VF9 in those markets in July.

The company has decided to expand its portfolio in the US and is introducing two more models to the American customers. The VF6 and VF7 were designed with the help of Torino Design, an Italian design house that worked with BMW, Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and many other automakers on their projects.

VinFast files for US IPO to fund its global expansion

Another big step for the Vietnamese electric car maker VinFast. The company has officially filed for an Initial Public Offering and it wants to be listed at the NAsdaq exchange under VFS ticker. The company has recorded some of the fastest progress in the automotive industry and it seems there is nothing to slow it down.

It’s not an easy and straightforward process as it is for US or European companies. VinFast will first have to convert to a public limited company based in Singapore in order to comply with the US regulations. The name has already been chosen and VinFast will officially be called VinFast Auto Ltd.

The company and its IPO are being supported by a syndicate of nine banks with Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse and JP Morgan leading the group. The IPO filing follows the initial submission made to the SEC back in April of this year.

Tesla cut its prices in key markets like the US, EU, and China last week, with discounts up to 20%. Obviously, competitors can't just stand still and not react to this move, and VinFast is among the first to acknowledge preparing a strategy on the matter.

The Vietnamese company which already sells its EVs in the US and Europe is indeed planning a response to Tesla's aggressive price cuts. VinFast will launch promotions of its own to protect the market competitiveness of its models, Reuters reports.

VinFast's VF8 starts at $59,000 in the US, while its 7-passenger VF9 will set you back $83,000 and up currently. Those models are soon to be joined by the VF6 and VF7, prices for which haven't been announced yet. Tesla's Model Y entry-level SUV starts at $52,990, down from $65,990 before last week. So clearly, VinFast needs to do some price trimming of its own if it wants to compete, or at least offer some other perks.

A VinFast spokesperson put it like this: "As a new brand entering the market, when other brands reduce their prices we have to come up with promotions to ensure VinFast's competitiveness. We are considering many promotion programmes and will announce soon".
