Vinyls, Records and LP's Thread

thats interesting and explains alot
You couldn’t necessarily trust imports either as SA was used a dumping ground for bad pressings. I remember having to wait ages for a good copy of "Steven Stills (The Album)" as all of the first batch jumped on the same track (and that was using a moving coil at 3 grams if memory serves).

FWIW SA audiophiles back in the day abhorred local LP pressings as the masters were 2nd hand from overseas and considered to be "worn", imports at a premium price were preferred and definitely sounded better on top end equipment.

... if you’re paying R200 for old vinyl I might consider digging through my moth balled collection for Zepp IV :D

Good God I'm not an audiophile, not that crazy... Just don't like digital sound. Got a Led Zepp 4 in good nick and I'll take it for R200

I will say again, reissues are not always remastered and are effectively second prints, its best you ask your dealer as he will know for sure, assuming ofcourse he is knowledgeable that way. I've found that the bootleg reissues are generally done from master and the original labels are more likely to remaster.

Anyway if you were in Cape Town I would have been able to source that LP quite easily but shipping vinyl is always a risky business especially with the Post Office as they are now.

I lost a vinyl which I ordered in June, only 500 ever printed, I paid R670 for it but my dealer has been gracious enough to refund the money, but that wasn't the point.

Oh for Gods sake, the Led Zepp reissues ARE REMASTERED, it's says so on the damn cover. Jimmy Page did them actually but still went through a computer so I'm not interested. I have a line on one but if u can source a good copy then Aramex courier is R100... **** SAPO

anyway back to the topic

I've been recently purchasing SA music, and to be quite frank its better than a lot of the international stuff I hear.

The Cape Town scene is extremely strong but overall I think the Make Overs from PTA impress me the most, they've also completed two US tours which is not easy for any SA band. They will be doing a few shows in CT in December so do attend if you can, its quite an experience.

The Death Panthers is a newish band and has a small but strong following, their shows are always filled with huge amounts of energy.

That glorious turntable going through that POS mixer into a computer makes me want to cry.

Oh and back to the OP I'm now the very proud owner of all the Led Zepp studio albums excluding CODA, including a first printing UK release of Led Zeppelin IV ;)

your comments suggest you know absolutely nothing about turntablism, Vestax have been releasing quality mixers for years and you can see examples of their mixers being used by DJ Qbert in the early 90s

you will struggle to find credible reviews on this mixer that criticises it in such an ignorant fashion.

No I don't, never claimed I did? You're going into digital, that defeats the entire purpose of vinyl for me... But as stated before we use vinyl VERY differently.

making a statement to the effect that the PMC-08 is a POS suggested you know absolutely nothing about turntablism, so yes you never claimed to know anything about it and I just highlighted that point. Its strange you concede the point but claim the PMC-08 is a POS.

given that you know nothing about turntablism, to make a statement like that is extremely ignorant.

as for going digital and defeating the purpose of vinyl, well thats only your ignorant opinion, and we have established that already.

Touchy touchy, as if "turntablism" is a real thing

What you're doing with vinyl is pointless, use a cd, or better yet a laptop and DJ for your cats without sucking up a limited resource.

shame you hate so much, and I'm the touchy one

No dude, I couldn't give a ****. I don't call your ridiculous hobby "ignorant", there's no call for you to insult me over mine.

I don't really care what turntablism is, IMO it is a complete waste of vinyl if the sound goes through any digital conversion. That statement is not ignorant it's a personal preference. You have yours and I have mine, you could be an adult about it and discuss instead you resorted to insults.

you called my setup a POS, that already made the situation personal and you are clearly on a troll path with your memes and idiotic statements

perhaps practice what you preach

and you still repeat your ignorant views on turntablism and how digital sound cards work in that context, the fact you think its a waste of good vinyl is laughable actually

this is an example of turntablism, I guess you think that mixer is also a POS

Riiiight, your phone is a POS too. Gonna declare a fatwa now?

;)

Ok I think I got it now, turntablism is DJing with no audience and more wicky wicky. Same page! And of course not it's got LOTS more colourful lights on it.

shame, continue hating, you obviously have nothing better to do
