Cape Town - Just hours after examinations kicked off at the University of the Western Cape, fresh protests erupted as some students boycotted exams.
Amid the chaos, UWC spokesman Luthando Tyhalibongo confirms police are investigating two incidents where female students were allegedly raped at a residence on Friday.
Police spokeswoman Noloyiso Rwexana confirms: “The victims are aged 20 and 21 and a 23-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, November 5, in one of the incidences and appeared in court [on Monday] facing a charge of rape.
“Investigation continues in the other case and an arrest is yet to be made.”
Exams began at the troubled campus but protesting students unhappy with management’s decision to go ahead without first meeting their demands led to unrest at the University in Bellville on Monday.
