Hey all,

I'm in between the VA clubs at Benoni and Edenglen and as usual my home club's (Benoni) tracker machine is broken again. I probably only used it twice since joining as it is always broken.

For my own amusement I asked the staff member last night when they will fix our machine as I use it often (not everyday, but once a week to help me keep track of what I'm doing). Her answer was, "never". I asked out a bit and she told me that apparently VA is removing all tracker machines from all their clubs right throughout the country.

The reason behind this was that the contract with the people who supports the machine has (or is) coming to an end and they will not be renewing it. Also, they don't have qualified staff to assist with blood pressure readings and as such don't want to give people false hope with the readings the machines give.

Is there anyone that can shed some light on this? Is it true that they will remove all the machines? Is there any other gym goers that can tell me the best (and fastest) way to measure ones body fat? The blood pressure I can get my bro to do and my heart rate I'll do on my phone. I know the readings aren't always 100% but at least it gives you an indication of what goes on.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen the machines around for a while. My suspicion, the machines were wildly inaccurate and providing people with wrong info. i used the machines at different gyms, and the differences in results were quite extreme.

Westville VA has the machine still there, but it's been "out of order" for the last few months. So your explanation above does add up.

A while ago my dad went for an op and the closest gym to the hospital was the Sunward Park one and although that gym is very larney, it had no tracker machine at all. Which was a bit odd. Ok so it seems that they are defo removing them - I never could get the same (or similar) readings between the two clubs. Makes a lot sense now.

Thanks to everyone for their replies - I do appreciate your feedback.

They told me a while back that they couldn't get spare parts and were unable to repair them.

Steenberg have removed theirs completely. Before that it was out of order for a few weeks. There is a sign up in its place, saying that it won't be coming back, but I can't remember if it gave a reason or not.

Also gone in milpark, I really liked those machines, so I'm quite upset that they're gone too.

Wonderpark (PTA) has it & its still working.
The other branhces removed it & put up a notice that they are removing them permanently

The best and fastest way to measure body fat is to stand infront of a mirror and wiggle. If you are disgusted, you need to go to gym more.

Those machines are useless in any case. they give wrong readings. there is no way those machines can differentiate between bone density, fat and muscle accurately.

Best to do manual readings, checks etc.
