I dont get it,, Virgin media in the UK has internet for 8 pounds with all the bells and whistles unlimited downloads and phone or something, and there is a virgin here in south africa, that would mean it would probaly only cost us about R 110 a month, so the only thing i can think of is all these companies are taking eveyone for a ride and there money, You telling me with all the money these companies make they cant set up towers here in south africa and make the same money as they would in the UK, Come on, people keep spending there money on high prices for internet wich only leaves them to say why should we change it if people keep paying for it, we could moan all day long about high prices, and they wont just change it cause we asked nicley. I bet even intel has a dual processor that is like 10 times faster than what we get, but only to bring one out and a time with slightly higher speeds than the last making more money, i suppose it would be stupid if they just brought out the fatest straight away and lose all that profit, But come on guys. Dont you see what they doing, more people would moan about it to others than to actually get up and try something to fix it, if i had some good cash to build a tower. I'd build one and make **** loads of money even at 100 bucks, Even if it was local for awhile, it would still mean people could connect to the same tower sending information without having to go through any other companies bandwidth, Bandwidth it actually nothing if u look at it that way a tower connects 2 or more pc's to swop information, and they charging us for files and e-mails that were ours in the first place, We should be paying for the use of the tower not the bandwidth that was'nt actually thiers in the first place, its like someone else selling ur car and they take the money for it, so to speak..Think about it..thought i'd right abit on what i thought:D

I'm sure we'd all like them to come setup here and give us cheap internet, unfortunately there are 2 obstacles... government and Telkom

there is a bit of history behind virgin media.
basically, it is a cable company....msot major centres in the uk have cable under the pathways etc coming into all the houses.

as you can imagine, this is a very expensive exercise...so, how did they do it?
the answer is, the didnt. another company, a long time ago, paid all the money, laid all the cables, and then realised it costs too much and went bankrupt in a big way. they were then bought up by a few others for a song, but the main thing was the infrastructure was in place. a few years on, and various takeovers later, and virgin media have a massive cable network.

so, find someone in s.a. to stump up about R600billion on a project they know will make them broke, then when they are broke buy up the bits of the network and start offering cheap internet.

some history:

p.s. the compnay has got nothing to do with richard branson. absolutely zilch. it is, and always has been called NTL. NTL got hold of the virgin mobile business in the uk and thereby acquired the rights to use the virgin name, and they are using it big time....the whole company has been rebranded and they send junk emails flyers out the whole time.
