Hi Guys.

Ealier today i connected to the internet on my PC using my Nokia 6600 as a modem (via bluetooth, GPRS only) with the pictures and animations disabled. I had left with R35.99 worth of airtime in my account. Now according to my phone the total data (incoming and outgoing) was 13.52 MB. According to VM's GPRS prices, i was expecting to be charged anything between R6.50 & R7. (1MB = 50c)

I was impressed to say the least to see that only R4.93 was chowed from my account. I have a feeling this has somehing to do with Firefox. Firefox is also faster than Micro$oft's internet Explorer.

Has anyone experinced the same thing?

mmm, I'm also using Mozilla Firefox, pictures OFF, animations OFF. I've never actually monitored my gprs data usage and checked my balance afterwards…

*searching for accurate gprs data usage logger software app thingy*

Seeing as you're clearly in the game of optimising the value/merit to YOU of the data you allow to come down and are smart enough to use Ff to manage it, y'all should add Adblock+Filterset.G Updater ("news" (M&G is a *prime* candidate for this) sites are littered with usually useless ad images) and Flashblock to further improve the signal-to-noise ratio in your favour.

Hi Guys :)

Tonight I decided to try Opera (Version 9.01 Build 8552), using my N6600 (Virgin SIM Card) as a modem of course. I must say that after about 2 Hours of intense surfing, i'm really impressed. Now, since my poor N6600 only has GPRS, i normally disable pictures, animations, and audio files from automatically loading in a bid to boost the speed.

First and foremost, i was impressed by the interface, it gives a feeling of IE, but with the engine of Mozilla Firefox, but with more enhancements (if you know what i mean-if not, tough luck). I have to admit that i'm a Classic Mozilla fan,and has been since the project started, but after tonight (or should i say this morning), Opera will be my default browser.

HERE'S WHY:

1. Cookies settings for individual sites.
2. Blocks pictures that slip through Mozilla Firefox's cracks. (faster loading and little data transmitted, which means cheaper surfing)
3. Slightly easy on the RAM. (I have 512 RAM, when running the programe uses 38MB, and 1.5 MB when minimized.) - 512 SDRAM + 2.4GHz CPU Celeron)
4. With Picture disabled, there are some pictures that one just has to view/see, no problem, with Opera you can right click and load that particular images.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION AND I'M SHOULD YOU FIND ANY OF IT OFFENSIVE OR FEEL THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TLKING ABOUT, REMEMBER, IT'S MY "PERSONAL OPINION".

Pleae excuse my spelling and gramma, English is my 3rd language, and i'm feeling sleepy now.

not a cent...2cents then?
When?

Maybe you did not move enough data....also ,remeber that it could take some time for the deduction to show.

I seriously shot myself in the foot with VC like this. After a few minutes my real balance showed...

Where do I get the VM sim, that will work in a data card? the 128bit SIM?

How do a person load airtime, I haven't seen vouchers yet . . .

I'm paying R2/mb, and today been online for 7 hours and counting with a
30MB send/rec = R60 WOW:eek:

/4 = R15 , could have saved R45

Purchase a regular 64K one at Woolworths or Musica for R89.00...
Then you need to get VM to send you a new 128K simcard and perform a sim swap - easiest way would probably be to PM Piesang and ask him to forward your details ;)

Alternatively you could hang on until the 128K simcards are available in store... I've no idea when this is happening... Piesang?

Woolworths sells them... some people have said they've actually bought them at Musica as well - although the last time I asked they said they didn't sell it. I also hear it's available on ABSA atms or internet banking.
