Virgin Mobile for EDGE internet access - how reliable is it?

Yea.. thanks for backing me up on that one. :)

Just got an email from Virgin Mobile. They say no SE GC85 data cards in stock, but they do have: "the Sierra Data Card in stock for R1740.00"

Yes, and if you phone Sony-Ericsson they will tell you the same. No stock.

You're getting closer to the price of a 3G card.

Yes, true, but:

1. I prefer EDGE over the 3G option, becuse of the "greater good" benifit of "cost saving by speed limitation".

2. They have not yet told me WHICH "Sierra Data Card" they are talking about. the 775 is being phased out, and all the others (850, 860, 875) all are infact 3G cards.

Im still waiting, though, for the reply to my request to Virigin Mobile for the exact model of "Sierra Data Card" they are offering me for R1750....

(so, if it is 3G capable, I'd probably get it, at R1750, and so be "future proof", as you suggested. But, I highly likely end up using some or other bandwidth limiting software to limit my usage. At R50 for 100mb, I better be very carefull how fast that is used. ;) )
