I have been an MTN contract holder since the around 1996 .. same number since then.

About once or twice a month I get calls (shown as "private number"), and I just answer "hello .." Inevitably a female voice answers "um fine thenk u".
I then ask "who's speaking?" and the imbecile on the other end says "I calling from Virgin Mobile"

Using a few choice 4-letter swear words (which cast serious aspersions on the Virgin 'lady's' Virginity), I vent my anger and hang up.

How can I ensure that their spam is stopped ... ?

I mean I'm unlikely to change from MTN to V-Mobile. that would be worse than going from the frying pan into the fire

Their tele-marketing is also a farce! They offered me a free Samsung phone (not my best), which I was happy to accept, and then told me I can't have it unless I take the airtime

Virgin Mobile is harassing me as well. I've asked them 3 times to remove me from their calling list - if they call a again I'll make the time to give them hell. Just not sure who to report them to. Is there a telecoms equivalent of ISPA?

Register your contact details on DMASA's do-not-contact list on their website. It stops everything- emails, sms, calls, the lot- as long as the marketer is a member of DMASA.

The one exception I've found is that my own cellular provider (Vodacom) cannot be stopped from spamming me, no matter what I do. Best achievable here is that I can get all spam from them stopped temporarily, for anything from a week to 3 months, them it starts again and I have to repeat. But still better than constant spam and marketing calls

I did that months ago .. and still get that whoring Virgin spamming me. There must be a way to legally stop these idiot parasites from making unsolicited spam calls.:wtf:

I have even thought of taking out a court order against them to prevent them harassing me.... but the thought of trying to deal with our SA Justice (sic) system frightens me ... I'm not young now, so don't have that many years for them to get off their asses.

The cellular networks are getting very aggressive these days O.o

i sometimes get up to 3 calls per day!!!... I now take a very aloof tone, and hang up as soon as they start with the "i'm phoning from Virgin mobile..." infact, any of them, I just hang up in their ear!.

Is this actually Virgin or is it a reseller for Virgin calling you, do you happen to know?

not a clue... I just don't give them the time or day these days!...

The last one called and said, "Hello Mr. $$$$, how are you today sir?" So I said " I'm absolutely fantastic" and hung up.

In theory the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) should take action against Vodacom. In practice they don't bother replying.
