Today I helped my mother upgrade her Virgin Mobile contract. We chose to do it telephonically and I was told there is no upgrade fee and she would only have to supply the RICA documents on delivery which is in 7-10 days. There is no need for bank statements.
Later we called back and asked if it would not just be quicker and easier to do the upgrade at a shop. It turns out that if you go to the shop you have to still supply RICA documents AND 3 months bank statements. Not only that but there's a R100 upgrade fee.
I'm now trying to figure out how their policy can differ so much. Firstly, why charge the upgrade fee in the shop but not telephonically? For one thing, if you upgrade in the shop there is no courier needed to deliver. So it seems logical that it should cost them less.
Secondly, why do you need 3 months bank statements through one process and not the other? Honestly, how does that make any sense at all.
It really just seems like they want to make money for nothing since most people would upgrade in store.
