Virgin mobile - whats the catch?

I've got the same deal, different phone though. I've had no unexpected costs or funny problems so far. I get my credit every month, and any unused credit is rolled over from the last month.
I thought the deal was too good to be true, but I did it and switched from Vodacom. I like the fact that the money you pay is the exactly the credit you get out for making calls. None of this pay a monthly contract fee and get a 'free' minute BS.

As far as catches go, check you understand the terms and conditions for the call rates and unlimited sms. E.g. international SMS not included. I was confused about their call rates but i called them and they helped me out

Thanks andy.

That helps me a lot in my decision.

My 2 young adults (children) have been doing very well at school and college so I want to reward them with this contract.

BTTB.

OH NO!! when you see virgin mobile, turn around and run as fast as you can!

my 2 year horror contract just ended, never ever going back there!:sick::sick:

3 Months Bank Statements

Sitting with a small issue with Virgin Mobile.
They want 3 months of Bank Statements. I was chatting with 2 different people at Virgin and the more I tell them that I am a Sole Trader and my details within my Statements are private in the first instance and 3 months of Bank Statements would actually constitute a ream of paper, the more they are not listening.
They do a Credit Check as part of the application and I told them they are by all means welcome to do.

Seems I cant get past the people at the front door at Virgin.
Many years back when I opened my account with Vodacom I had the same response, I told them the situation and they waived this requirement. If Vodacom has a similar package I would phone them now and it would likely be a lot easier seeing they have all my details already.

I think this is part of FICA, not Virgin but rather gvt regulations.
Hi Marine,

That could be a possiblity? Then why don't they simply say so.
Still does not detract from my confidentiality nor the fact that who could even fax that quantity of paper.

Regards,
BTTB.

BTTB I agree with you I would not give anyone that information
Coming to think of it I think FICA more or less needs to confirm your address more than wanting Bank Statements?
In the past I have given copies of Rates, Electricity, Vodacom Statement and even a Telkom Account (LOL) to people confirming FICA Status.

So if this is the case then Virgin require this for their own ends whatever that may be, but obvious.

I think if you went to Vodascum as a new customer the same would apply. This IIRC is a FICA requirement

Gone are the days of handing over a credit card and an ID book to get a contract!

With the 3 month bank statement I just use a black pen to hide the names and account numbers. I'll leave visible what's not confidential or usable.

I think the bank statement is to assess your credit worthiness (income/expenses, etc), and a similar procedure would apply anywhere you need to open a credit account, after FICA was implemented.
