Virgin mobile - whats the catch?

I don't think there is much besides per second billing only after the 1st minute, they could also stop it anytime and you having to put up with Virgin's incompetency

Would u say its worth it to go for this because I have the Voadcom Family Top up 135 and the upgrade for the phoned they are offering at Virgin I would have to pay in thousands of rands and I send almost 350 sms a day a 85c a message so maybe its better to go with the Virgin Contract

Is it worth it - NO. Also it depends what you compare it to. If you're going for GPRS/EDGE then you won't see a lot of difference with what you have.
Shame there's a Disprin shortage or I would say they should do a package deal with Virgin SA.;)

Will be using it mainly for Sms'es and Mxit dont phone at all so would u say it would benifit me then?

350 sms's a day? dude who are you smsing? lol

i have a friend on the unlimited sms package and it's legit, the only catch as they mention in the T&C is the lack of per second billing which is not really that big an issue.

all depends on what you use it for mostly. if you're paying over R150 purely on SMS's and u hardly make any calls then its worth it

but then u get no airtime .. 150 on the virgin contract gets u unlimited sms's and 150 airtime

What exactly are the call rates for this plan, and when is it billed per second? I've looked at the links and it's not specific about anything.

It'd be a good offer, but the catch is its VM, I won't touch anything linked to Cell C.

[qoute] I won't touch anything linked to Cell C[/quote]
Hmm..not neccessarily so.I have a Virgin card for those emergency cases but the Cell C's coverage in where I work sucks behind. So what I do is set Netwok selection to manual on me Samsung and then it gives me choices between the 3 networks.I select Vodacom and then voila,I'm using Vodacom's coverage. The data apps are faster and the call quality is also far superior. The weird thing is that is says Virgin and Vodacom on the homne screen at the same time.

Think twice before switching to Virgin - If things go south you are in trouble as nobody takes responsibility for your problem...

my phone switches between Virgin and Vodacom depending on coverage. Never had problems calling on the unlimted SMS top up. However, are we sure about the cost. An email from customer service claims this:

"The charges for the top up R150 free unlimited deal would be charged per minute for the 1st 5 minutes of the day then charged per sec after this, and have confirmed this with our Retail Operations division and our marketing Department. "

Which is in contradiction to their advertising material in stores and on the website which claims per second billing after the 1st minute.
