Are there any disadvantages of roaming on vodacom while on virgin mobile? Do we get nailed or pay extra for roaming?

What would happen if i just roam on vodacom al the time?

None that I know of. I've been roaming on Vodacom since Virgin first launched, and never had any problems. Only thing is if the Vodacom tower I normally 'tune into' goes down, I get a very weak Cell C signal, which is useless here to say the least...
Edge and GPRS works well, and no extra costs. Hope this helps you

Its slower in my experience.

Ditto. No extra charge and you'll get a stronger signal and if you're lucky might even get bumped up to 3G  by whatever tower you're close to BUT I've found it's a lot slower than Virgin.

So, consensus seems to be that for voice, Voda is better.
For data, CellC. Is this correct? When settings set to Auto, do they swap between the two based on what you want to do, or is it worth manually changing to whichever is best whenever it would be worth it?

I thought it was cos when Cell C came out they rode on Voda's Cell Towers and Virgin is Virtual so it rides both but depends on Cell C on cellular services, even 3G ,if people have noticed, have to wait for from Cell C to release it.

Good Voice, slow data because of the down-grade of edge to gprs..no extra costs..besides that its great
