I thought the mybb community might find the post I just made over on the WA Forums interesting:

Anyone been following this? Virgin Media is one of the major uncapped (cable) providers in the UK.

While I fully agree that ISP's should state the real speed that a user will be able to receive. Its easy to see through the "press release" which is quite clearly a marketing stint from Virgin: Since uncapped at a fast line speed is expensive they are hitting back at the capped providers who more than happily give full line speed (since the caps regulate the usage).

They've received mixed responses, some claiming that Virgin themselves are dishonest because:
1. They offer unlimited, however throttle the speeds (esp of heavy users).
2. They themselves also offer misleading speed advertisements.

That £15.25 (R170) all-in-price for uncapped 10Mb/s broadband from Virgin would get me what at WebAfrica?

Yip, just about 1gig on your 384kbps complete. And you're always telling people to compare apples with apples...

Yup the UK is a good 5-6 years ahead of SA. To catch up we need:
- LLU (reduce IPC cost)
- Fibre infrastructure (reduce local transit cost)
- WACS (reduce international transit cost)
